A robust viologen and Mn-based porous coordination polymer with two types of Lewis acid sites providing high affinity for H 2 O, CO 2 and NH 3

A novel porous coordination polymer [Mn(pc3)(H2O)2]·xH2O (3 < x < 4) is synthesized in water at pH = 7 using the anionic viologen-carboxylate ligand 4,4′-bipyridinium,1,1′-bis-(2,4-dicarboxyphenyl) (pc32−). Dehydration of the material results in the formation of open pores containing two types of accessible Lewis acid sites: exposed Mn2+ cations and N+ atoms of viologen units. Due to this property the PCP shows high affinity and capacity in the adsorption of H2O, CO2 and NH3. Despite the presence of strong adsorption sites this material is stable in liquid water and in gaseous NH3.

Iron( ii ) and cobalt( ii ) complexes based on anionic phenanthroline-imidazolate ligands: reversible single-crystal-to-single-crystal transformations

A series of low-spin FeII and CoII complexes based on phenanthroline-imidazolate (PIMP) ligands are reported. The FeII complex (H9O4)[Fe(PIMP)3]·(C4H10O)2(H2O) (1a) shows reversible crystalline phase transformations to afford two new phases (H9O4)[Fe(PIMP)3]·(H2O) (1b) and (H9O4)[Fe(PIMP)3]·(C8H18O)(C4H10O)(H2O) (1c) by release of diethyl ether and absorption of diethyl/dibutyl ether, respectively. This reversible uptake/release of solvent molecules is a clear example of single-crystal-to-single-crystal transformation involving a discrete metal complex. On the other hand, the corresponding CoII complex (H9O4)[Co(PIMP)3]·(C4H10O)2(H2O)2 (2) does not exhibit similar phase transformations. In …

Abstract Hierarchical zeolites consisting of Beta nanoparticles (15–40 nm) were obtained via hydrothermal treatment of a concentrated zeolite gel-precursor (H2O/Si = 2.5–14) without utilization of complex SDAs. The proposed approach is based on the formation of a large number of zeolite nuclei under particular crystallization conditions, followed by their agglomeration resulting in the dense packing of the particles preventing their further growth. The rhenium(IV) complex (NBu4)2[ReBr4(ox)] (1) (ox = oxalate and NBu4(+) = tetra-n-butylammonium cation) has been prepared and its crystal structure determined by X-ray diffraction. The structure is made up of discrete [ReBr4(ox)](2-) anions and bulky NBu4(+) cations. Each [ReBr4(ox)](2-) anion is surrounded by six NBu4(+) cations, which preclude any significant intermolecular contact between the anionic entities, the shortest rhenium···rhenium distance being 9.373(1) Å. Further synthetic and structural investigations of new pre-organized picket porphyrins

The straightforward synthesis of three new picket porphyrins with a restrained conformation is described. These porphyrins have an unusual behavior due to the conjugated but still flexible nature of their pickets. The crystal structure of their common precusor is also reported and confirms the presumed geometry of this type of picket. Indeed, the latter one is formally obtained by the conjugation of two aromatic rings through an amide bond. Although the specific shape of the picket is expected to overcrowd the center of the porphyrin, it is shown that different types of nucleophilic reagents can add easily on these pickets.
The [Pd(bipy)]2+ “merry-go-round”: Insights into the lability of the Pd–N bond

Abstract Two tripods (1 and 2) featuring pyrimidinyl pendant arms have been synthesized from 5-(1H-pyrazol-3-yl)-pyrimidine (5) and 1,3,5-tribromomethylbenzene derivatives. Reaction with three equivalents of [Pd(bipy)](NO3)2 to form a macrotricycle closed by palladium coordination unexpectedly afforded the mononuclear species [Pd(1)(bipy)]2+ and [Pd(2)(bipy)]2+. These complexes show fluxional behavior on the 1H NMR timescale, the [Pd(bipy)]2+ fragment hopping between the pyrimidinyl coordinating moieties. An unsymmetrical bis(tridentate) ligand LH in which one binding site can be readily deprotonated forms a kinetically inert [Co(III)L(2)](+) complex which can be used as a "corner" species for the "Coupe du Roi" assembly of trans,trans-[Co(2)M(2)L(4)](6+) metallogrids (M = Fe(II), Co(II), Cu(II), Zn(II)). In the mixed Co(III)/Co(II) species, the oxidation states appear to be localised. The reactions of dicopper tetrapivalate complex Cu2(μ-OOC-t-Bu)4(NCMe)2 (1) with triphenylphosphine oxide and diethyl phosphite allow paddle-wheel (PW) copper(II) complexes with phosphorus-containing axial ligands (2, 3) to be obtained. When meso-bis(diethoxyphosphoryl)porphyrins 4M were employed in this ligand exchange reaction, a series of one-dimensional (1D) homo- and heterometallic coordination polymers 5M composed of PW subunits and organophosphonate diesters were prepared and characterized by means of single crystal X-ray analysis.
