Nucleosynthesis of proton-rich nuclei. Experimental results on the rp-process
2009
Experience NSCL; International audience; We report in this study the nuclear properties of proton-rich isotopes located along the rp-process path. The experiments have recently been performed at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (NSCL) at Michigan State University. The level properties above the proton separation energy of the nuclei 30S, 36K and 37Ca were measured with precision of < 10 keV. This will allow a reduction in the determination of the astrophysical (p, ) reaction rate under rp-process conditions.

TheNd150(He3,t) andSm150(t,He3) reactions with applications toββdecay ofNd150
2011
The {sup 150}Nd({sup 3}He,t) reaction at 140 MeV/u and {sup 150}Sm(t,{sup 3}He) reaction at 115 MeV/u were measured, populating excited states in {sup 150}Pm. The transitions studied populate intermediate states of importance for the (neutrinoless) {beta}{beta} decay of {sup 150}Nd to {sup 150}Sm. Monopole and dipole contributions to the measured excitation-energy spectra were extracted by using multipole decomposition analyses. The experimental results were compared with theoretical calculations obtained within the framework of the quasiparticle random-phase approximation, which is one of the main methods employed for estimating the half-life of the neutrinoless {beta}{beta} decay (0{nu}{b…
Overlappingβdecay and resonance neutron spectroscopy of levels inKr87
1983
Energy levels in $^{87}\mathrm{Kr}$ have been studied, with special emphasis on the unbound region, using two different methods. The first method comprises neutron capture and transmission measurements on an enriched gas target of $^{86}\mathrm{Kr}$ using neutron time-of-flight techniques. In this way, neutron widths were determined for 39 resonances below 400 keV and capture areas for 14 resonances below 90 keV. The second method is a decay study of 56-s $^{87}\mathrm{Br}$ in which a level scheme for $^{87}\mathrm{Kr}$ has been established that shows 126 levels in the bound and 12 levels in the unbound region. A detailed comparison amongst the neutron resonance, the $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-r…
Production of Sn and Sb isotopes in high-energy neutron induced fission of natU
2018
The first systematic measurement of neutron-induced fission yields has been performed at the upgraded IGISOL-4 facility at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. The fission products from high-energy neutron-induced fission of nat U were stopped in a gas cell filled with helium buffer gas, and were online separated with a dipole magnet. The isobars, with masses in the range A = 128-133 , were transported to a tape-implantation station and identified using γ -spectroscopy. We report here the relative cumulative isotopic yields of tin (Z = 50) and the relative independent isotopic yields of antimony (Z = 51). Isomeric yield ratios were also obtained for five nuclides. The yields of tin show a …
Spectroscopy of Rn, Ra and Th isotopes using multi-nucleon transfer reactions
1999
Abstract High-spin spectroscopy of Rn, Ra and Th isotopes has been performed. The nuclei have been populated using multi-nucleon transfer reactions involving a 232 Th target and a 136 Xe projectile. This type of reaction offers the only mechanism for populating high-spin states in many of these nuclei. Interleaving bands with opposite parities have been observed to high spin ( ∼28 h ) in 218,220,222 Rn, 222,224,226,228 Ra and 228,230,234 Th. A systematic study of the rotational alignment properties of octupole bands in radon, radium and thorium isotopes reveals information concerning the role of the octupole phonon and the onset of stable octupole deformation with increasing rotational freq…
Erratum to “Beta decay half-lives of neutron rich Ti–Co isotopes around N=40” [Nucl. Phys. A 660 (1999) 3–19]
2000
Abstract The neutron-rich 57−59 Ti, 59−62 V, 61−64 Cr, 63−66 Mn, 65−68 Fe, 67−70 Co have been produced at GANIL via interactions of a 60.4 MeV/u 86 Kr 34+ with a 58 Ni target. They have been separated by the doubly achromatic spectrometer LISE3. Beta-decay half-lives have been determined for all produced nuclei, and subsequent γ -rays have been observed for the most efficiently produced nuclei. The measured half-lives of vanadium and chromium isotopes are compared to QRPA calculations using ground states deformations from the FRDM or ETFSI models. In an astrophysical context, the short half-lives of 58 Ti and 64 Cr indicate that these nuclei are potential r-process progenitors, after β -dec…
Independent and cumulative yields of very neutron-rich nuclei in 20 MeVp- and 18–41 MeVd-induced fission ofU238
1991
Independent and cumulative yields in nearly symmetric fission have been measured for the first time by bombarding $^{238}\mathrm{U}$ with 20-MeV protons and with 18-, 25-, and 41-MeV deuterons. Isobaric charge dispersion has been determined in the A=110, A=112, and A=114 mass chains and, from asymmetric fission, in the A=80 mass chain. The average isobaric charges in the p+U reaction were 44.01\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.20 (A=110), 45.15\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.15 (A=112), and 45.74\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.15 (A=114). The widths (standard deviations) of the charge dispersion curves were 0.82\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.08 (A=112) and 0.54\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.08 (A=114…
Yrast superdeformed band in59Cu
2000
High-spin states in Cu-59 were populated using the fusion-evaporation reactions Si-28+ Ca-40 at a beam energy of 125 MeV and Ar-36+Si-28 at a beam energy of 143 MeV. The Gammasphere array in conjunction with ancillary detector systems allowed for the identification of a superdeformed rotational band in Cu-59, which was firmly linked to low-spin yrast states. Using directional correlations of oriented states, a spin-parity assignment of I-pi=25/2(+) to the band head was possible. The average quadrupole moment of the band is measured to be Q(t)=(2.24+/-0.40) e b. The characteristics of the band are compared to neighboring nuclei and predictions of different mean-field theories.
Systematic study of low-spin states in even Cd nuclei.
1992
Low-lying low-spin collective states in even $^{106\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}112}\mathrm{Cd}$ and $^{116}\mathrm{Cd}$ were investigated using in-beam and off-beam \ensuremath{\gamma}-ray and conversion-electron spectroscopy. New spin assignments and decay branching ratios for the levels in $^{106}\mathrm{Cd}$, $^{108}\mathrm{Cd}$, $^{110}\mathrm{Cd}$, and $^{112}\mathrm{Cd}$ were obtained. The present results essentially complement the level systematics from $^{106}\mathrm{Cd}$ to $^{120}\mathrm{Cd}$. From the new data, it is inferred that two sets of low-lying ${0}^{+}$ states having different excitation characteristics cross between $^{114}\mathrm{Cd}$ and $^{116}\mathrm{Cd}$. No correspondi…
