Decay assessment of stone-built cultural heritage: The case study of the cosenza cathedral façade (south calabria, italy)

2021

This study aims to assess the different decay phenomena affecting the Cosenza Cathedral façade (Calabria, South Italy) through the evaluation of the relative damage indices. For this goal, a multidisciplinary approach was applied exploiting both nondestructive and microdestructive techniques. Such a combination enabled proposing an intervention priority scale that can be helpful to institutions when planning a prompt restoration intervention. The results suggest the efficiency of this approach to obtain a multidisciplinary diagnostic and conservation system for the management and valorization of the Cultural Heritage also in terms of monitoring, maintenance, and selection of the most suitab…

Recent Anti-Mafia Strategies: The Italian Experience

2008

We often tend to think of criminal policies as essentially repressive. At first sight this assumption seems to apply straightforwardly in the case of policies against organized crime, especially those targeted at mafia type organizations. However, experience shows that these criminal organizations can be fought successfully also by means of measures which are not in themselves repressive, albeit they aim to favour repression in the last resort. Together with direct repressive measures, in the Italian case we indeed register a wide variety of other policies addressing civil society and public administrations, and only indirectly the mafia. Indirect strategies, therefore, are aimed at the rei…

PANDEMIA NEL CAPITALISMO DEL XXI SECOLO

2020

In recent months much has been written and said about the pandemic, produced by coronavirus SARS-CoV2, which results in COVID-191 and which is causing deaths all over the world, affecting above all those social strata that, due to their own living conditions, do not know how to defend themselves. The book returns to the subject, examining the interactive play of the different factors that lie at the root of this dramatic social phenomenon and that constitutes yet another warning, from the most unheeded, about the real conditions of our planet and the possibility that life can continue to reproduce in it. Within the analysis of these different factors we wanted to pay particular attention to…

Applying an operating model for the environmental risk assessment in Italian Sites of Community Importance (SCI) of the European Commission Habitats …

2013

The fast development of agro-biotechnologies asks for a harmonized approach in risk analysis of GMO's releases, where "risk analysis" entails the assessment, management and communication of risk. Risk assessment consists in the evaluation of the likelihood that a hazard occurs, associated with the presence of the receptor(s) in the receiving environment, and the determination of their potential degree of exposure to the hazard. The whole process has to be both science based and applied case by case, and it involves a very complicated procedure that needs to be transformed in an operational and standardized tool. Beginning in 2003, an expert group on behalf of the Italian Ministry of the Env…

La polizia in Italia. Una storia complessa

2021
