Anti-parietal cell antibodies – diagnostic significance
2015
Anti-parietal cell antibodies (APCA) are an advantageous tool for screening for autoimmune atrophic gastritis (AAG) and pernicious anemia (PA). The target for APCA is the H+/K+ ATP-ase. It has been demonstrated, that APCA target both, the alpha, and beta subunits of the proton pump, although the major antigen is the alpha subunit. Circulating serum APCA can be detected by means of immunofluorescence, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay – currently the most commonly used method, and radioimmunoprecipitation assay (RIA) – the 4A subunit has been optimized as a molecularspecific antigen probe. RIA is the most accurate method of antibody assessment, characterized by highest sensitivity. APCA can …
Das polyglanduläre Autoimmunsyndrom Typ II: Epidemiologie und Manifestationsformen
1999
Background and objective Polyglandular autoimmune syndrome (PAS), is characterized by the coexistence of several autoimmune diseases, affecting predominantly the endocrine glands. The juvenile form (PAS type I) is distinguished from the adult type II in which autoimmune thyroiditis, adrenal cortical insufficiency and diabetes mellitus type I predominate. The connections between epidemiological, clinical and immunological aspects were analysed and described in this study of patients with PAS type II. Patients and methods Among a total patient population of over 15,000 seen in our endocrinological university policlinic from 1992 through 1996, the clinical data of all 151 patients with PAS typ…
Clonal expansion of melan a-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes in a melanoma patient responding to continued immunization with melanoma-associated pept…
2000
Peptides derived from human tumor antigens have been used in a number of clinical trials to induce specific immune responses against autologous tumors in cancer patients. Although favorable clinical results were observed in single patients, immune responses correlating with tumor regression were either not detected or in case of responses, the T-cell specificity was difficult to demonstrate. In this study, we analyzed antigen-specific T-cell responses induced in the skin and in peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) in an HLA-A2-positive melanoma patient. The patient showed major regression of metastatic melanoma under continued immunization with peptides derived from the melanocyte differentia…
Effects of environment and genotype on dispersal differ across departure, transfer and settlement in a butterfly metapopulation
2022
Active dispersal is driven by extrinsic and intrinsic factors at the three stages of departure, transfer and settlement. Most empirical studies capture only one stage of this complex process, and knowledge of how much can be generalized from one stage to another remains unknown. Here we use genetic assignment tests to reconstruct dispersal across 5 years and 232 habitat patches of a Glanville fritillary butterfly ( Melitaea cinxia ) metapopulation. We link individual dispersal events to weather, landscape structure, size and quality of habitat patches, and individual genotype to identify the factors that influence the three stages of dispersal and post-settlement survival. We found that ne…
Safety of the current drug treatments for vitiligo
2020
Introduction: Vitiligo is an acquired depigmenting skin disorder adversely affecting the patient's quality of life. Despite the presence of several treatment modalities, ranging from medical to physical to surgical options, none is curative. Each modality has its own drawbacks and side effects. Thus, the treatment modality needs to be tailored for each individual patient taking into consideration the disease characteristics and also its efficacy and safety to obtain a favorable risk-benefit ratio.Areas covered: This review highlights the different treatment modalities utilized in vitiligo up until 4 November 2019 along with their adverse effects and contraindications, if any.Expert opinion:…
ITIL rīki IT pārvaldībā
2020
Maģistra darbā tiek apskatīti nosacījumi labas IT pārvaldības nodrošināšanai, vadoties pēc ITIL pamatprincipiem. Darbā tiek praktiski analizēti IT pārvaldības nodrošināšanas paņēmieni trīs reālos uzņēmumos. Analīzes rezultātā tiek veidoti un ieviesti pielāgojumi uzņēmumos esošajiem rīkiem, lai nodrošinātu IT pārvaldības atbilstību ITIL labajai praksei, un praktiski izstrādāti pielāgojumi, kuru ieviešanu var plānot nākotnē. Pielāgojumu plānošanas un ieviešanas rezultāti darba noslēgumā pamato ITIL rīku nepieciešamību un to pielāgošanu veiksmīgas IT pārvaldības nodrošināšanai uzņēmumos. Gan darba teorētiskās, gan praktiskās daļas pamatā ir izmantotas ITIL labās prakses vadlīnijas.
Aligning Two Specifications for Controlling Information Security
2014
Assuring information security is a necessity in modern organizations. Many recommendations for information security management exist, which can be used to define a baseline of information security requirements. ISO/ IEC 27001 prescribes a process for an information security management system, and guidance to implement security controls is provided in ISO/IEC 27002. Finnish National Security Auditing Criteria (KATAKRI) has been developed by the national authorities in Finland as a tool to verify maturity of information security practices. KATAKRI defines both security control objectives and security controls to meet an objective. Here the authors compare and align these two specifications in…
Exploring the Relationship between Information Technology Infrastructure Library and Process Management: Theory Development and Empirical Testing
2014
This paper investigates whether information technology (IT) departments that implement the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) processes also employ process management. This is a pertinent issue, as ITIL not only implies a time-limited program for redesigning vital IT processes according to best practices but a complete transformation to ITIL also implies that processes are managed on a daily basis. Without process management, ITIL will not be a success beyond its initial implementation. A survey of 444 Nordic ITIL experts was conducted to examine if there is a correlation between the implementation of ITIL processes and process management. The results are unambiguous and promising for sustain…
Implementing IT Service Management: A systematic literature review
2013
Author's version of an article in the journal: International Journal of Information Management. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.ijinfomgt.2013.01.004 This article provides a systematic review of existing research related to the implementation of IT Service Management (ITSM) and the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL). The review's main goals are to support research; to facilitate other researchers' search for relevant studies; and to propose areas for future studies within this area. In addition, we provide IT managers with useful information on ITSM and ITIL, based on research-based knowledge of their implementation. The review results sug…
Virtual Space and the Contention over Representations of the City
2015
The European Capital of Culture (ECOC) is one of the longest running cultural initiatives of the European Union (EU). The EU annually designates one or more cities with this much-competed-for city brand. In various cities the ECOC designation has caused tensions and disagreements over the decision-making process, funding of cultural events, and the use of urban space. These disputes have also generated urban activism that uses various platforms to contest ECOC policies: public discussions in the local media, Internet sites and blogs, as well as alternative events and activities organised by the citizens themselves. This chapter investigates the conflict related to the ECOC designation of Tu…
