Browning-induced changes in trophic functioning of planktonic food webs in temperate and boreal lakes: insights from fatty acids

AbstractThe effects of lake browning on trophic functioning of planktonic food webs are not fully understood. We studied the effects of browning on the response patterns of polyunsaturated fatty acids and n−3/n−6 ratio in seston and compared them between boreal and temperate lakes. We also compared the regional differences and the effects of lake browning on the reliance of zooplankton on heterotrophic microbial pathways and the mass fractions of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in zooplankton. Relations between {K, s + 1}-potent matrices and different classes of complex matrices

In this paper, {K,s+1}-potent matrices are considered. A matrix A∈C^(n×n) is called {K,s+1}-potent when K A^(s+1) K = A where K is an involutory matrix and s∈{1,2,3,¿}. Specifically, {K,s+1}-potent matrices are analyzed considering their relations to different classes of complex matrices. These classes of matrices are: {s+1}-generalized projectors, {K}-Hermitian matrices, normal matrices, and matrices B∈C^(n×n) (anti-)commuting with K or such that KB is involutory, Hermitian or normal. In addition, some new relations for K-generalized centrosymmetric matrices have been derived.

This paper examines matrices A∈C^(n×n) such that R A = A^(s+1) R where R^k = I, the identity matrix, and where s and k are nonnegative integers with k⩾2. Spectral theory is used to characterize these matrices. The cases s = 0 and s⩾1 are considered separately since they are analyzed by different techniques.

Ciudades y calidad de vida en el Área Metropolitana de Valencia

El presente trabajo construye un Índice Compuesto de Calidad de Vida para comparar la calidad de vida urbana en los 43 municipios del Área Metropolitana de Valencia. Se agregan siete facetas relevantes de la calidad de vida en un solo indicador, empleando la metodología del Análisis Envolvente de Datos combinada con un enfoque de programación multicriterio. Los resultados muestran una clasificación jerárquica completa de los municipios del Área. Con excepción de la ciudad de Valencia, los municipios con más elevada calidad de vida poseen una densidad de población relativamente baja y carecen de una orientación industrial destacada.

En este trabajo se analizan algunos de los obstáculos que están dificultando la implicación de diferentes sectores sociales en la adopción de las medidas necesarias para hacer frente a la actual situación de emergencia planetaria. En particular, analizamos la supuesta confrontación entre educación ambiental y educación para la sostenibilidad.
