Facile synthesis of sustainable activated biochars with different pore structures as efficient additive-carbon-free anodes for lithium- and sodium-io…

2022

The present work elucidates facile one-pot synthesis from biomass forestry waste (Norway spruce bark) and its chemical activation yielding high specific surface area (SBET) biochars as efficient lithium- and sodium-ion storage anodes. The chemically activated biochar using ZnCl2 (Biochar-1) produced a highly mesoporous carbon containing 96.1% mesopores in its structure as compared to only 56.1% mesoporosity from KOH-activated biochars (Biochar-2). The latter exhibited a lower degree of graphitization with disordered and defective carbon structures, while the former presented more formation of ordered graphite sheets in its structure as analyzed from Raman spectra. In addition, both biochars…

Organic and chemical n fertilization on coriander (coriandrum sativum L.) in a Mediterranean environment

2014

Abstract Coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) is an annual herbaceous Medicinal and Aromatic Plant (MAP) dealing with a great industrial interest because of its strongly-scented fruits (“seeds”). The role of N fertilization in coriander seed yield is matter of debate as far; information is missing, for instance, about the effects of organic N fertilization, a mandatory technique when the organic cropping management is chosen. Organic and chemical N fertilizers have been supplied on coriander from 2001–2002 to 2006–2007 in a Mediterranean semi-arid environment, and their effects on the formation of biomass and seeds yield have been evaluated. Different organic fertilizers, allowed by EU regulat…

Herbicidal activity of derivatives of 9-aminofluoren-9-ylphosphonic acid

1991

A series of derivatives of 9‐aminofluoren‐9‐ylphosphonic acid (phosphonic analogues of morphactins) were synthesized and screened for herbicidal activity against Lepidium sativum, Cucumis sativus and Lycopersicon esculentum. Ethyl 9‐(N‐alkylamino)fluoren‐9‐yl(phenyl)phosphinates appeared to be equipotent with glyphosate and thus may be recognized as new lead compounds for further structural modifications.

Phytotoxic effects of essential oils of Nepeta curviflora Boiss and Nepeta nuda L.subsp. albiflora growing wild in Lebanon

2009

The chemical composition of the essential oils of two Nepeta species collected in Lebanon was studied by means of GC and GC-MS analysis. The essential oil from N. curviflora Boiss. contained high amounts of β-caryophyllene (41.6%), caryophyllene oxide (9.5%), (E)-β-farnesene (6.2%) and (Z)-β-farnesene (4.8%); in the oil from N. nuda L. subsp. albiflora (Boiss.) Gams. collected in Laklouk the main compounds were β-bisabolene (11.8%), pulegone (10.8%), (E,Z)-nepetalactone (8.0%), (E)-β-farnesene (7.1%) and caryophyllene oxide (6.9%), while N. nuda L. subsp. albiflora collected in Tannourine Cedar Forest contained high percentages of hexadecanoic acid (10.1%), β-bisabolene (7.8%), caryophyllen…

Potential allelopathic activity ofSideritis italica(Miller) Greuter et Burdet essential oil

2011

Sideritis italica (Miller) Greuter et Burdet is a widespread Mediterranean Lamiacea. Essential oils from S. italica flowerheads and leaves were extracted by hydrodistillation and then tested for their potential allelopathic activity against Raphanus sativus L. (Magnoliophyta) and the moss Tortula muralis (Hedw.) (Bryophyta), two organisms already tested for allelopathy, and against two bryophytes growing in the same environment as S. italica: the moss Bryum capillare Hedw. and the liverwort Lunularia cruciata (L.) Dum. For R. sativus, we considered seed germination and root and epicotyl growth. For the mosses, we used spore germination and protonemata development, while for the liverwort, w…

The source of gibberellins in the parthenocarpic development of ovaries on topped pea plants.

1988

The role and source of gibberellins (GAs) involved in the development of parthenocarpic fruits of Pisum sativum L. has been investigated. Gibberellins applied to the leaf adjacent to an emasculated ovary induced parthenocarpic fruit development on intact plants. The application of gibberellic acid (GA3) had to be done within 1 d of anthesis to be fully effective and the response was concentration-dependent. Gibberellin A1 and GA3 worked equally well and GA20 was less efficient. [(3)H]Gibberellin A1 applied to the leaf accumulated in the ovary and the accumulation was related to the growth response. These experiments show that GA applied to the leaf in high enough concentration is translocat…

The antecedents and outcomes of online consumer brand experience

2021

Websites are a remarkable cyber asset and a vital part of companies’ marketing communications and sales operations. This chapter discusses how online Consumer Brand Experience is created and affected by website qualities. We develop and test a research model concerning the antecedents and outcomes of Consumer Brand Experience with a sample of 202 respondents in Finland. The findings suggest that website appearance quality dimensions have a significant effect on evoking Consumer Brand Experience, whereas the technical quality dimension does not. Brand trust, electronic Word-of-Mouth intentions, and behavioural intentions are identified as outcomes of consumer brand experiences evoked by webs…

Opening New Window in Upper Clival Region: Results from Anatomic Study.

2018

Considering its position located anteriorly to the brainstem, the retrosellar area, in particular the upper clival region and the interpeduncular cistern, is one of the most difficult regions to surgically approach. To date, many different operative solutions have been described, given that this region is attainable by both lateral and median approaches. Lateral routes include the frontolateral, subtemporal, and frontotemporozygomatic approaches with relative variants that have been extensively reported. Among the lateral approaches, the frontotemporozygomatic one is considered particularly useful because it allows better visualization of the retrosellar and suprasellar areas minimizing the…
