Consumers’ acceptance of information and communications technology in tourism: A review

2017

The review provides a conceptual framework on e-tourism research.Research on e-tourism is grouped into three classifications.Research on these three groups are uneven.Synthesis of theories, theories and frameworks provided. The impact of information and communications technology (ICT) in tourism (e-tourism) has altered the ways tourism services are accessed and consumed. Ubiquitous and highly innovative ICTs provide different channels for consumers to use tourism services; thus, studies on e-tourism are numerous and fragmented. Different factors account for how consumers embrace these channels. The purpose of this study is to review studies on consumers acceptance or adoption of e-tourism i…

Does the law matter? An empirical study on the accessibility of Finnish higher education institutions’ web pages

2022

AbstractInformation and communication technology (ICT) has made higher education available to many students in a new way. The role of online learning in higher education institutions (HEIs) has grown to an unprecedented scale due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The diversity of higher education students has increased, and accessible solutions are needed. New European and national regulations support these trends. The research reported in this paper was conducted in Finland, which is one of the leading European countries in terms of high technology and digitalisation. The aim of this research is to explore the accessibility of all Finnish HEIs’ (N = 38) landing pages based on Web Content Accessibi…

Auttamisen diskursiivinen rakentuminen Facebookissa Refugees Welcome Keski-Suomi -sivulla

2016

Maisterintutkielmassani tarkastelen, miten turvapaikanhakijoiden auttaminen rakentuu diskursiivisesti Facebookissa Refugees Welcome Keski-Suomi -sivulla. Euroopan pakolaiskriisin myötä Suomeen saapui viime vuonna yli 30 000 turvapaikanhakijaa, mikä synnytti kansalaisten keskuudessa auttamishalun, jollaista ei ole aikaisemmin Suomen mittakaavassa nähty. Tarkastelemani Facebook -sivu perustettiin turvapaikanhakijoiden auttamisen koordinoimiseksi. Vastaavanlaista sivustoa ei ole aikaisemmin perustettu, joten kyseessä on varsin uusi sosiaalisen median ilmiö. Päätutkimuskysymykseni on: Miten auttaminen rakentuu diskursiivisesti Facebookissa Refugees Welcome Keski-Suomi -sivulla? Tämä kysymys jak…

Two-stage anaerobic digestion of tomato, cucumber, common reed and grass silage in leach-bed reactors and upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactors

2010

Abstract Anaerobic digestion of tomato, cucumber, common reed and grass silage was studied in four separate two-stage reactor configuration consisting of leach bed reactor (LBR) and upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactor (UASB). LBR studies showed that COD solubilization for cucumber and grass silage was higher (50%) than tomato (35%) and common reed (15%). Results also showed that 31–39% of initial TKN present in tomato and cucumber was solubilized in the leachates and 47–54% of the solubilized TKN was converted to NH4-N. The corresponding values for common reed and grass silage were 38–50% and 18–36%, respectively. Biomethanation of the leachates in UASB reactors resulted in methane yiel…

Application of Toxkit microbiotests for toxicity assessment in soil and compost

2004

The potential of Toxkit microbiotests to detect and analyze pollution in agricultural soil and the quality of compost was studied. The toxicity tests used included seed germination biotests using cress salad (Lepidum sativum L.), tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum L.), and cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.), and the Toxkit microbiotests included those with microalgae (Selenastrum capricornutum), protozoa (Tetrahymena thermophila), crustaceans (Daphnia magna, Thamnocephalus platyurus, and Heterocypris incongruens), and rotifers (Brachionus calyciflorus). Experiments on compost were undertaken in a modified solid-state fermentation system (SSF) and under field conditions (in a windrow). To promote th…

Microbiological investigation of Raphanus sativus L. grown hydroponically in nutrient solutions contaminated with spoilage and pathogenic bacteria

2012

Abstract The survival of eight undesired (spoilage/pathogenic) food related bacteria (Citrobacter freundii PSS60, Enterobacter spp. PSS11, Escherichia coli PSS2, Klebsiella oxytoca PSS82, Serratia grimesii PSS72, Pseudomonas putida PSS21, Stenotrophomonas maltophilia PSS52 and Listeria monocytogenes ATCC 19114T) was investigated in mineral nutrient solution (MNS) during the crop cycle of radishes (Raphanus sativus L.) cultivated in hydroponics in a greenhouse. MNSs were microbiologically analyzed weekly by plate count. The evolution of the pure cultures was also evaluated in sterile MNS in test tubes. The inoculated trials contained an initial total mesophilic count (TMC) ranging between 6.…

Cucumis sativus l. Seeds ameliorate muscular spasm-induced gastrointestinal and respiratory disorders by simultaneously inhibiting calcium mediated s…

2021

Cucumis sativus L. is globally cultivated as an edible vegetable. Besides its nutritional benefits, it is used in traditional medicines against various ailments. The current study was designed to elucidate the multi-target mechanisms of a C. sativus seeds extract against asthma and diarrhea using network pharmacology along with a molecular docking approach. Furthermore, in-vitro and in-vivo experiments were conducted to verify the mechanistic insight of in silico studies. LC-ESI-MS/MS was performed to identify the bioactive compounds in the extract; later, some compounds were quantified by HPLC. C. sativus seed. Children as social actors negotiating their privacy in the digital commercial context

2023

This study advances research on children’s negotiation of online commercial privacy by identifying an act of digital agency by children that may serve their current needs but can also impact children negatively. Secondly, it identifies certain factors children consider while evaluating the trustworthiness of apps and websites before disclosing information online. Eight focus group discussions with children (13–16 years) in Finland’s capital region are analysed using thematic analysis. Our findings highlight that while children’s digital literacy education is needed, ensuring that education translates to children’s online practices is also essential. We also recommend increasing corporations…

Protein and β-ODAP content and their association with yield contributing traits in selected grass pea lines

2009

Eight selected grass pea (Lathyrus sativus L.) lines were evaluated over three different growing seasons (2005-2008) at the experimental field at the ‘Sparacia farm’ (Cammarata-AG) in Sicily. A randomized complete-block design with three replicates was adopted. 35 viable seeds/m2 of each line were placed at the end of autumn in rows distant 50 cm. After one summer ploughing, 90 kg ha-1 di P2O5 were filled during two harrowing before sowing; later two manual weeds control were performed. Harvest was executed at full maturity of pods (end of the spring). Temperature values and effective rainfall for each season were recorded. Information are presented on the variability in storage seed protei…
