A new ichnofauna from the Permian of the Zat Valley in the Marrakech High Atlas of Morocco

Abstract A new ichnofauna from the Permian of Morocco is described in details: it is the first Palaeozoic ichnofauna from the Zat Valley in Marrakech High Atlas. The new tracksite was found in the Tighdouine region, in the middle-upper Permian of the Cham-el-Houa Siltstone Formation. An abundant and diverse ichnoassemblage composed of both protostomian (probably arthropods and annelids) traces and vertebrate tracks is recorded. The presence of protostomian burrows and traceways, associated with tetrapod tracks corresponds to the Scoyenia ichnofacies. 9 pages; International audience; New tetrapod footprints belonging to the ichnogenus Hyloidichnus have been discovered in Turkey for the first time, in the lower part of the Çakraz Formation (Northwestern Anatolia) and together with macrofloral imprints of Annularia and Stigmaria. These discoveries confirm the Permian age of the fossiliferous red beds in which the coniferophyte Walchia was previously recorded. Based on the stratigraphic range of Annularia, Stigmaria and Hyloidichnus known elsewhere, a Cisuralian age is proposed for these beds. 17 pages; International audience; The Iberian Basin or its present-day expression, the Iberian Ranges, was refilled with red bed sediments of alluvial origin during the late Olenekian–Anisian period represented by the Cañizar (Olenekian–Anisian) and Eslida (Anisian) Formations, both commonly known as Buntsandstein facies. In the late part of the Anisian, the Tethys Sea reached the eastern side of the Iberian microplate, represented by the shallow marine facies of the Landete and Cañete Formations, also called Muschelkalk facies. Trackways of Arthropleura from the Late Pennsylvanian of Graissessac (Hérault, southern France)

International audience; The Late Pennsylvanian deposits of the Graissessac Basin (southern France) are well known for their abundant and diversified plant remains. Here we report on seven trackways of giant millipede-like arthropods recently discovered from two surfaces. These traces are ascribed to Diplichnites cuithensis. The trackways are up to 200 cm long, up to 36 cm wide, straight to curved and consist of two parallel rows of numerous and elongated appendage imprints that are oriented perpendicular to the midline. Resume Les traces (empreintes et pistes) des rhinoceros actuels sont tres mal connues, et une seule empreinte fossile de rhinoceros neogene ou quaternaire a ete decrite a ce jour. A Laetoli 7 sites ont livre des traces de rhinoceros, toutes attribuables au nouvel ichnogenre Dicerotinichnus; les traces des sites H, I et J ne sont pas definissables specifiquement. In the proximity of Jumilla (Murcia, Spain) there is a site called Hoya de la Sima with mammal footprints dating from the Upper Miocene. This site is an old gypsum quarry where footprints of Hipparion, Pecoripeda, Carnivora, Ursidae, and Proboscidea were discovered. While the site was being cleaned and conditioned after the discovery to protect the prints, Camelidae and other prints were unearthed and are currently being studied. The description of the Camelidae ichnites demonstrates that these belong to a new ichnogenera, produced by the prints of Paracamelus. Chirotheria and Other Ichnotaxa of the European Triassic

At the end of the Permian, numerous amphibians and therapsids vanished, creating many empty ecological niches, which were occupied by new creatures. This event brought new trends in animal locomotion thanks to modifications of the skeleton limbs. The newcomers were faster and more dangerous for other families. The prominent ichnogenera were Synaptichnium, Chirotherium, Brachychirotherium, Isochirotherium, and Sphingopus. Their trackmakers were Thecodonts, reptiles having the above-mentioned evolutive characteristics. Dinosauroid footprints of French Upper Triassic. Discrimination, interpretation and comparison

Abstract Dinosauroid tracks are common in France. They are mainly tridactyl II–IV feet tracks, sometimes with those of hands. A lot of these latter Coelurosaurichnus grancieri Courel & Demathieu, 2000 was discovered by MG near the village of Payzac (Ardèche department) in beds belonging to the “Ensemble gréso-dolomitique gris” (= EGDG) (fig. 1. 2). The low Lower Cambrian rocks from the Sierra de Cordoba contain one of the best successions in Europe, which consists of well exposed mixed facies with abundant fossil assemblages showing long stratigraphical ranges throughout the Pedroche Formation. These assemblages include diverse Ovetian archaeocyaths, trilobites, small shelly fossils, calcimicrobes, trace fossils and stromatolites. La palichnofaune des bassins permiens provençaux

Resume Les comparaisons morphologiques et statistiques faites entre la palichnofaune de vertebres du Permien provencal et celle du bassin de Lodeve permettent de conclure a l’existence d’associations semblables. L’etude paleontologique montre la presence d’Eosuchiens, de Captorhinomorphes ou de Procolophonoides, de Pelycosauriens et, peut-etre, de Therapsides, vivant dans des environnements de plaine d’inondation, de lacs ou de marecages.
