CMOS-compatible nanoscale gas-sensor based on field effect
2009
The integration of a solid state gas sensor of the metal oxide sensor type into CMOS technology still is a challenge because of the high temperatures during metal oxide annealing and sensor operation that do not comply with silicon device stability. In the presence of an external electric field sensor sensitivity can be controlled through a change of the Fermi energy level and consequently it is possible to reduce the operation temperature. Based in this effect, a novel field effect gas sensor was developed resembling a reversed insulated : gate field effect transistor (IGFET) with the thickness of gas sensing layer in the range of the Debye length (L D ). Under these conditions the control…
An efficient algorithm for stopping on a sink in a directed graph
2013
Abstract Vertices of an unknown directed graph of order n are revealed one by one in some random permutation. At each point, we know the subgraph induced by the revealed vertices. Our goal is to stop on a sink, a vertex with no out-neighbors. We show that if a sink exists this can be achieved with probability Θ ( 1 / n ) , which is best possible.
E infine ritrovarsi: una riflessione pedagogica sul ricongiungimento familiare
2013
The family reunification is not a happy ending after a long and painful separation, instead it is a new beginning that requires special attention to the reconstruction of the ties. According to a pedagogical reading, the long-distance relationship between parents and children, before the family reunification, involves the risk of educational injuries for children deprived for a long time of the intimate relationship with their parents. Often these aspects of risk aren’t understood by the social and educational services, they stop having relationships when family just when reunification happened. Then reunited families become a new interlocutor that expresses specific needs in schools, socia…
Regulation of cuticular hydrocarbon profile maturation by Drosophila tanning hormone, bursicon, and its interaction with desaturase activity
2016
International audience; Shortly after emergence the exoskeleton (cuticle) of adult insects is rapidly expanded, hardened (sclerotized), and pigmented (melanized). In parallel with this process, the oenocytes, which are large polyploid cells located below the abdominal epidermis, secrete onto the cuticle a cocktail of cuticular hydrocarbons (CHs) and waxes. These improve the waterproofing of the cuticle, and also provide important chemosensory and pheromonal cues linked with gender, age, and species differentiation. The hardening and pigmentation of the new cuticle are controlled by the neurohormone, bursicon, and its receptor, encoded by the DLGR2 receptor, rickets (rk); by contrast, little…
Fauna Ibérica. De lo real a lo imaginario (II)
2014

Development of ultra-fast thulium-doped fiber lasers - Prospects for 2μm-nanophotonics.
2021
Developing highly coherent pulsed sources around the 2 µm wavelengthhas been a particularly dynamic field of research in the last couples of years, due to its numerous applications. In optical telecommunication, the wavelength rangearound 2 µm is one of the most promising solutions to increase the transmission capacitypast the current technological bottleneck. In this context, passively mode-lockedfiber lasers appear as a high potential solution for cheap laser sources, due to their veryhigh coherence and intrinsic compatibility with telecommunication systems.Passively mode-locked fiber lasers at 1,55 µm and their ultrafast dynamics is oneof the specialty of the ICB laboratory, and the aim i…
Future use of silicon photomultipliers for Kaos at MAMI and P¯ANDA at FAIR
2009
A characterisation of scintillating fibres with silicon photomultiplier read-out was performed in view of their possible application in fibre tracking detector systems. Such a concept is being considered for the Kaos spectrometer at the Mainz Microtron MAMI and as a time-of-flight start detector for the hypernuclear physics programme at the PANDA experiment of the FAIR project. Results on particle detection effciency and time resolution are discussed. In summary, the silicon devices are very suitable for the detection of the low light yield from scintillating fibres insofar a trigger scheme is found to cope with the noise rate characteristics.
