2D Waveguided Bessel Beam Generated Using Integrated Metasurface-Based Plasmonic Axicon.

International audience; Near-field imaging of the propagation of a diffraction-free Bessel-type beam in a guided wave configuration generated by means of a metasurface-based axicon lens integrated on a silicon waveguide is reported. The operation of the axicon lens with a footprint as small as 11 μm2 is based on local engineering of the effective index of the silicon waveguide with plasmonic nanoresonators. This generic approach, which can be adapted to different types of planar lightwave circuit platforms, offers the possibility to design nano-engineered optical devicesbased on the use of plasmonic resonators to control light at the nanoscale.

Investigations of Surface Forces between Gypsum Microcrystals in Air Using Atomic Force Microscopy

This article introduces a new approach to the study of the interactions between gypsum faces in air. We have mounted a gypsum crystal on the end of a microcantilever to measure local forces (van der Waals, capillary forces, electrostatic) directly between two crystals. A systematic study with respect to the orientation of crystalline faces, relative humidity, and the duration of contact between crystals improves the understanding of the mechanism involved in the hardening of plaster in air. Hardy spaces and quasiconformal maps in the Heisenberg group

We define Hardy spaces $H^p$, $00$ such that every $K$-quasiconformal map $f:B \to f(B) \subset \mathbb{H}^1$ belongs to $H^p$ for all $0<p<p_0(K)$. Second, we give two equivalent conditions for the $H^p$ membership of a quasiconformal map $f$, one in terms of the radial limits of $f$, and one using a nontangential maximal function of $f$. As an application, we characterize Carleson measures on $B$ via integral inequalities for quasiconformal mappings on $B$ and their radial limits. Our paper thus extends results by Astala and Koskela, Jerison and Weitsman, Nolder, and Zinsmeister, from $\mathbb{R}^n$ to $\mathbb{H}^1$. [EN] This work evaluated the cytotoxic effect of different EOCs-functionalised silica particle types. The in vitro toxicity of eugenol and vanillin-immobilised SAS, MCM-41 microparticles and MCM-41 nanoparticles was evaluated on HepG2 cells, and compared to free EOCs and pristine materials. The results revealed that free essential oil components and bare silica had a mild cytotoxic effect on HepG2 cells. However, the comparative study showed that free eugenol and vanillin had a milder cytotoxic effect than the equivalent concentrations of immobilised components on the different silica particles, while differences in cell viability between the bare and functionalised particles relied on the …

A solid phase assay for the colorimetric detection of competitively amplified HCV-cDNA has been established and used to investigate clinical samples from patients with chronic hepatitis. The assay is based on the reduction in the amplification of an hepatitis C virus-related competitor molecule by wild-type hepatitis C virus during polymerase chain reaction. The internal standard contains a lac operator sequence, allowing the amount of amplified competitor to be determined using a lac I-repressor/beta-galactosidase fusion protein. ABSTRACT Sequences in the 5′ and 3′ termini of plus-strand RNA viruses harbor cis -acting elements important for efficient translation and replication. In case of the hepatitis C virus (HCV), a plus-strand RNA virus of the family Flaviviridae , a 341-nucleotide-long nontranslated region (NTR) is located at the 5′ end of the genome.
