What is individual in individualised instruction? Five storylines of meeting individual needs at school

2015

Abstract The purpose of this narrative case study was to examine the meanings and practices of individualised instruction narrated by two seventh-grade Finnish pupils with mild learning difficulties, their mothers, their special education teacher and researchers. The data comprise narrative interviews and field notes. The analysis showed that the narrators had various, even conflicting, experiences of individualisation, which was narrated through five storylines: individual needs as difficulties and limitations; individualisation as the ideal principle for inclusive education; individualisation as a bureaucratic procedure; individualised instruction as making room for emotions, and individu…

Data from: Ecological limits on diversification of the Himalayan core Corvoidea

2012

Within regions, differences in the number of species among clades must be explained by clade age, net diversification rate, or immigration. We examine these alternatives by assessing historical causes of the low diversity of a bird parvorder in the Himalayas (the core Corvoidea, 57 species present) relative to its more species rich sister clade. The core Corvoidea contain ecologically diverse species spanning a large range of body sizes and elevations. Despite this diversity, on the basis of ecological, morphological, and phylogenetic information, we infer that the best explanation for the low number of species within the core Corvoidea is one in which ecology limits diversification. Within…

Data from: A revision of Sesuvium (Aizoaceae, Sesuvioideae)

2017

Sesuvium and Cypselea are closely related succulent genera within the Sesuvioideae (Aizoaceae). Since Cypselea is nested in Sesuvium in molecular studies and both genera share traits separating them from other members of the subfamily, we propose to include Cypselea in Sesuvium. Sesuvium (incl. Cypselea) comprises 14 species and is distributed worldwide with centres of diversity in southern Africa and North and Central America. Sesuvium comprises erect to procumbent herbs with opposite leaves that often bear conspicuous sheath-like lateral appendages on the petioles (pseudostipules). These and the many-seeded capsules are diagnostic traits, separating Sesuvium from the closely related gener…

Data from: Empirical and theoretical study of Atelostomate (Echinoidea, Echinodermata) plate architecture: using graph analysis to reveal structural …

2015

Describing patterns of connectivity among organs is essential for identifying anatomical homologies among taxa. It is also critical for revealing morphogenetic processes and the associated constraints that control the morphological diversification of clades. This is particularly relevant for studies of organisms with skeletons made of discrete elements such as arthropods, vertebrates, and echinoderms. Nonetheless, relatively few studies devoted to morphological disparity have considered connectivity patterns as a level of morphological organization or developed comparative frameworks with proper tools. Here, we analyze connectivity patterns among apical plates in Atelostomata, the most dive…

Neurotic Depression and Suicidal Ideation in Finnish Men: a Learning Theory Approach

1983

The theme of this paper is neurotic depression and suicidal ideation as studied in seventeen Finnish men between the ages of 22 and 46. These men were seen in learning-theory oriented individual psychotherapy (10-46 sessions). The results of treatment are evaluated in relation to the Finnish concept of masculine identity and particularly the difficulty experienced by fathers in achieving a close and permissive relationship with their sons, so that a boy could learn to tolerate “weaknesses” within himself.

Über Carpus und Tarsus vonDeinotherium giganteum Kaup (Mamm., Proboscidea)

1962

Multi axis representation and Euclidean distance of muscle fatigue indexes during evoked contractions

2014

International audience; In this article, we proposed a new representation of muscular fatigue during evoked muscle contractions based on fatigue indexes such as peak to peak amplitude, RMS of the M wave, mean and median frequency and fatigue index calculated from continuous wavelet transform (I CWT). These new representations of muscle fatigue using multi axis represented and Euclidean distance give better insights on changes in physiological characteristics during muscle fatigue. This technique provides a fatigue index using several muscle characteristics. The use of other kinds of fatigue characteristics as force could also be possible.

Cultural risk factors of suicidal behavior among adolescents in Kazakhstan

2020

Youth suicide is becoming a serious problem in Kazakhstan. According to UNICEF reports, the risk of suicidal behavior among adolescents (15-19 years) in Kazakhstan is three times higher than in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Despite the urgency of the problem, there are currently no psychological studies of the causes of suicide. In this article, we identify several cultural and historical factors and associated risks that, in our opinion, should be considered in the study of the growth of adolescent suicide in Kazakhstan.

The effect of two sulphur-containing pesticides, fenitrothion and endosulfan, on glutathione (GSH) content and on GSH S-transferase and gamma-glutamy…

1988

The glutathione (GSH) system of Procambarus clarkii (P.c.), the American red crayfish, is used as a marker of the effects of Fenitrothion (FT) and Endosulfan (ES), organophosphorus and organochlorinated insecticides, respectively. This system has been shown to be sensitive to different heavy metals poisoning, thus it has a double interest as marker for environmental contamination and as a potential source of xenobiotics or their metabolites to humans, since it is being fished commercially. The GSH content of the organ decreased 24 h after treatment with FT. FT promotes a 2-fold induction of GSH S-transferase (GST) activity at 6 h which is followed by a decrease of it at 24 h. The latter coi…

A practical MRI-based reconstruction method for a new endocavitary and interstitial gynaecological template

2015

Purpose: There are perineal templates for interstitial implants such as MUPIT and Syed applicators. Their limitations are the intracavitary component deficit and the necessity to use computed tomography (CT) for treatment planning since both applicators are non-magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) compatibles. To overcome these problems, a new template named Template Benidorm (TB) has been recently developed. Titanium needles are usually reconstructed based on their own artifacts, mainly in T1-weighted sequence, using the void on the tip as the needle tip position. Nevertheless, patient tissues surrounding the needles present heterogeneities that complicate the accurate identification of these …
