Using and Extending the SPEM Specifications to Represent Agent Oriented Methodologies

2009

Situational Method Engineering used for constructing ad-hoc agent oriented design processes is grounded on a well defined set of phases that are principally based on reuse of components coming from existing agent design processes; these components have to be stored in a repository. The identification and extraction of these components could take large advantages from the existence of a standardized representation of the design processes they come from. In this paper we illustrate our solution based on SPEM 2.0 specifications for modelling agent design processes and extending them when necessary to meet the specific needs we faced in our experiments.

Low stiffness variation in structural systems: identification and localization

2008

When a very low damage occurs, the undamaged structural response totally overlaps the damaged one either in time domain or in frequency domain; on the other hand, by considering some characteristics of the analytical signal, such as the phase, it has been possible to develop a damage identification procedure that allows the identification and localization of damage even if the structure experiences multiple damages at the same time. This procedure is also robust with respect to the presence of measuring noise. In order to assess the validity of the proposed damage identification procedure, numerical applications on single degree of freedom and 2 DOF and 4 DOF are presented using data record…

Mobile Wireless Interfaces: In Search for the Limits

2002

With the proliferation of 2G and 3G Telecom and other wireless networks hundred of millions of users will be able to access wireless services with their terminals in only a few years. In this paper we discuss the possibilities and limitations of existing and emerging mobile technologies and methodologies for porting information and functionality from traditional PCs to mobile devices and vice versa. We argue that in order to be able to properly port things between devices an equivalence concept for user interfaces is required.

Observation and identification tools for non-linear systems: application to a fluid catalytic cracker

2005

In this paper we recall general methodologies we developed for observation and identification in non-linear systems theory, and we show how they can be applied to real practical problems. In a previous paper, we introduced a filter which is intermediate between the extended Kalman filter in its standard version and its high-gain version, and we applied it to certain observation problems. But we were missing some important cases. Here, we show how to treat these cases. We also apply the same technique in the context of our identifiability theory. As non-academic illustrations, we treat a problem of observation and a problem of identification, for a fluid catalytic cracker (FCC). This FCC uni…

An efficient diagnostic technique for distribution systems based on under fault voltages and currents

2010

Service continuity is one of the major aspects in the definition of the quality of the electrical energy, for this reason the research in the field of faults diagnostic for distribution systems is spreading ever more. Moreover the increasing interest around modern distribution systems automation for management purposes gives faults diagnostics more tools to detect outages precisely and in short times. In this paper, the applicability of an efficient fault location and characterization methodology within a centralized monitoring system is discussed. The methodology, appropriate for any kind of fault, is based on the use of the analytical model of the network lines and uses the fundamental co…

The Global Grounding System: Definitions and guidelines

2015

The present paper presents the preliminary results of the ongoing Italian METERGLOB project on the contribution given by the exposed conductive parts to a Global Grounding System. One of the expected results of METERGLOB is to carry out guidelines for the identification of a Global Grounding System. These guidelines must be defined on the basis of the definitions and methods present in the current international standards on grounding and safety. In the paper some definitions and elements to be taken into account for the identification of a Global Grounding System are given.

Implementation of the ERI standard and Evaluation of Applications with several low-cost technologies

2008

The electronic registration and identification (ERI) systems allow carrying out a remote, secure and univocal identification of a vehicle through electronic devices. This paper presents the implementation of the ERI standard (ISO 24534 & 24535) in an API to develop applications. The implementation took into account the different components of the system to build the architecture of the identification system. Several applications have been developed in order to test this API with several low-cost technologies (Wifi, Bluetooth and RFID).

Identification and robust control of DC/DC converter Hammerstein model

2008

Abstract—This paper deals with model-based robust control of dc/dc power electronic converters. The converter is described by means of a Hammerstein model consisting of the nonlinear static characteristics of the converter and a linear time-invariant (LTI) uncertainmodel whose parameters depend on the actual duty-cycle operating range. This suggests that the controller be designed using robust control techniques. In view of applying robust control, identification of the earlier LTI models is performed by means of simulation experiments, carried out on a converter switching model implemented onMATLAB/SIMULINK environment. Internal model control (IMC) structure is employed for the controller …

The construction of knowledge from the scientific literature about the theme seaport performance evaluation

2015

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to know what scientific literature presents about the theme evaluation of seaport performance, thus enabling the construction of knowledge in the researchers and the identification of gaps in the research that will lead to advances in the area from the identification of the characteristics of a portfolio of relevant international publications. Design/methodology/approach – From the basic philosophical (constructivism), of the kind strategy (research-action) and the method used for the accomplishment of such strategy (structured process knowledge development process – constructivist (ProKnow-C)) the current research has a qualitative approach. Findings…

Hammerstein Model-Based Robust Control of DC/DC Converters

2007

This paper deals with model-based robust control of DC/DC power electronic converters. The converter is modelled by means of its static characteristic and a few continuous-time linear and time-invariant (LTI) models corresponding to contiguous ranges of duty-cycle. The model appears as a Hammerstein model in which the values of the parameters of the LTI part depend on the actual duty-cycle operating range. This suggests to describe the converter as an uncertain system to be controlled using robust control techniques. Frequency domain approach is used for describing the nominal model and the uncertainty. In view of applying robust control, identification of the LTI models is performed by mea…
