The Checklist of Sicilian Macrofungi: Second Edition

2022

Approximately 30 years after the publication of the first Sicilian checklist of macrofungi, a new updated version is presented here. The census of macromycetes was carried out through periodic observations in different agricultural and forest ecosystems, in urban areas, in public and private gardens, and in botanical gardens. The 1919 infraspecific taxa included in 508 genera belonging to 152 families were collected in the Sicilian territory. Ectomycorrhizal fungi are the most represented ecological category, followed by saprotrophs on wood, saprotrophs on litter, and terricolous saprotrophs. The interest in this rich group of organisms is evidenced by the nutritional and therapeutic value …

Minutoexcipula tuckerae gen. et sp.nov., a new lichenicolous deuteromycete on Pertusaria texana in the United States

1994

The new deuteromycete genus and species Minutoexcipula tuckerae is described and illustrated from five collections on Pertusaria texana made in Louisiana. It is characterized by the formation of black convex sporodochia-like conidiomata which also have a well-differentiated exciple. The branched conidiophores bear proliferating holoblastic conidiogenous cells with distinct annellations, and the singly borne conidia are brown and 1-septate. The separation of the genus from Lichenopuccinia, Milospium, Monodictys, Sclerococcum, and Trimmatostroma is discussed. Notes on other brown-spored deuteromycetes known on Pertusaria are also included, together with a key to the nine currently known speci…

“Phraseological fossils”: morphology of "fossil words" as idiomatic words in Spanish idioms

2020

[EN] The objective of this paper is to offer an analysis of the morphology of the kind of idiomatic word…

Sterelactones: New Isolactarane Type Sesquiterpenoids with Antifungal Activity from Stereum sp. IBWF 01060

2008

Four members of a new family of tetracyclic sesquiterenoids possessing the isolactarane skeleton have been isolated from mycelial cultures of Stereum sp. IBWF 01060. Their structure elucidation and their antifungal activity against several plant pathogens as well as other microorganisms are reported.

The Mineral Contents of Some Boletaceae Species from Sicily (Southern Italy)

2014

Abstract Data on the accumulation of metals in wild edible and inedible macrofungi of the Boletaceae family are discussed here and compared with data reported in literature from northern Italy and other European countries, as well as from China, Brazil, and Africa. The results show a significant difference in the values detected in Sicilian fungi compared to those reported in the literature.

First record of Phlebia margaritae (Polyporales, Basidiomycota) in Italy

2017

A new record of Phlebia margaritae, a very rare corticoid fungus, is reported for the first time in Italy. Macro- and micro-morphological descriptions, supported by molecular analysis, are also provided and new information on the geographic distribution of this species has now been increased

Left but not right temporal involvement in opaque idiom comprehension: a repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation study

2004

Abstract It has been suggested that figurative language, which includes idioms, is controlled by the right hemisphere. We tested the right hemisphere hypothesis by using repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) to transiently disrupt the function of the frontal and temporal areas of the right versus left hemisphere in a group of normal participants involved in a task of opaque idiom versus literal sentence comprehension. Forty opaque, nonambiguous idioms were selected. Fifteen young healthy participants underwent rTMS in two sessions. The experiment was run in five blocks, corresponding to the four stimulated scalp positions (left frontal and temporal and right frontal and tempor…

Domain-specific intensifying constructions and/in weather-related proverbs. A case study based on Dutch dialects in Flanders.

2021

International audience; [Introduction] There are few things so rigorously present in human consciousness and communication as the subject of the weather. Nevertheless, both in formal (weather forecasts) and informal contexts (daily conversations), this “weather discourse” remains understudied within linguistics (Liégeois 2019). This kind of discourse (Koch & Oesterreicher 1985), however, appears very interesting to different constructionist approaches (Gautier 2018), such as frame semantics and (cognitive) construction grammar. [Research question] In this context, this proposal looks from a constructionist perspective into what could be called “weather sayings” in the dialects of Flanders; …
