ENVISAT/AATSR derived land surface temperature over a heterogeneous region
2007
Abstract In this paper a method for evaluating land surface temperature (LST) algorithms over heterogeneous areas is presented. The evaluation was made for a set of 12 algorithms derived by using the split-window (SW) and dual-angle (DA) techniques for estimating sea and land surface temperature (SST and LST) from Advanced Along-Track Scanning Radiometer (AATSR) data. A validation of the proposed algorithms was carried out over a heterogeneous region of Morocco in the framework of the WATERMED (WATer use Efficiency in natural vegetation and agricultural areas by Remote sensing in the MEDiterranean basin) project. AATSR data and in situ measurements over this heterogenous region were compare…
Automatic Generation of Land Surface Emissivity Maps
2011
The remote sensing measurement of the land surface temperature (LST) from satellites provides an overview of this magnitude on a continuous and regular basis. The study of its evolution in time and space is a critical factor in many scientific fields such as weather forecasting, detection of forest fires, climate change, etc. The main problem of making this measurement from satellite data is the need to correct the effects of the atmosphere and the land surface emissivity (LSE). Nowadays, these corrections are usually made using a split-window algorithm, which has an explicit dependence on land surface emissivity. Therefore, the aim of our work was to define an enhanced vegetation cover met…
A fully automatic approach for multimodal PET and MR image segmentation in gamma knife treatment planning
2017
The aim of this study is to combine Biological Target Volume (BTV) segmentation and Gross Target Volume (GTV) segmentation in stereotactic neurosurgery. Our goal is to enhance Clinical Target Volume (CTV) definition, including metabolic and morphologic information, for treatment planning and patient follow-up.We propose a fully automatic approach for multimodal PET and MR image segmentation. This method is based on the Random Walker (RW) and Fuzzy C-Means clustering (FCM) algorithms. A total of 19 brain metastatic tumors, undergone stereotactic neuro-radiosurgery, were retrospectively analyzed. A framework for the evaluation of multimodal PET/MRI segmentation is presented, considering volume…
Reproducibility and accuracy in the morphometric and mechanical quantification of trabecular bone from 3Tesla magnetic resonance images
2014
Abstract Objective We used an animal model to analyze the reproducibility and accuracy of certain biomarkers of bone image quality in comparison to a gold standard of computed microtomography (μCT). Materials and methods We used magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and μCT to study the metaphyses of 5 sheep tibiae. The MR images (3 T) were acquired with a T1-weighted gradient echo sequence and an isotropic spatial resolution of 180 μm. The μCT images were acquired using a scanner with a spatial resolution of 7.5 μm isotropic voxels. In the preparation of the images, we applied equalization, interpolation, and thresholding algorithms. In the quantitative analysis, we calculated the percentage of …
Mass and energy flux estimates at different spatial resolutions in a heterogeneous area through a distributed energy-water balance model and remote s…
2012
Computed ET with the FEST-EWB model at high spatial resolution 10 m showed for the three days of analysis a mean relative error of 9.4% compared to AHS data, whereas for land surface temperature comparison a relative error of 1.6% was found. Then, LSTs from AHS and FEST-EWB were aggregated at decreasing spatial resolutions 50, 150, 300, 400, 500, 600, 750, and 1000 m, showing that the thermodynamic variability tends to disappear with a lower number of classes in the histograms and with a decrease of the coefficient of variation CV and of standard deviation values. At each scale, a similar behaviour was reported between each pair of images, with the values of standard deviation starting, res…
19F-MRT der Lungenventilation in Atemanhaltetechnik mittels SF6-Gas
2000
Breathhold 19 F-Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Lung Ventilation using SF 6 Gas. Objective: Development of a method to analyze lung ventilation by 19 F-magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of inspired SF 6 gas during breathhold. Material and Methods: Measurements were performed with a Siemens Magnetom Vision 1.5T scanner using the conventional gradient overdrive. Coronal images of the lung were acquired using ultrafast gradient-echo pulse sequences with TR/TE/α = 1.4 ms/ 0.48 ms/40° without slice selection. With NEX = 200 averages and MA = 32 × 64 raw data matrix, the acquisition time was 9s/image. Higher spatial resolution of 4.7 × 6.3 × 15 mm 3 was obtained with a three-dimensional pulse sequen…
A high-resolution PET demonstrator using a silicon "magnifying glass".
2021
Abstract To assist ongoing investigations of the limits of the tradeoff between spatial resolution and noise in PET imaging, several PET instruments based on silicon-pad detectors have been developed. The latest is a segment of a dual-ring device to demonstrate that excellent reconstructed image resolution can be achieved with a scanner that uses highresolution detectors placed close to the object of interest or surrounding a small field-of-view in combination with detectors having modest resolution at larger radius. The outer ring of our demonstrator comprises conventional BGO block detectors scavenged from a clinical PET scanner and located at a 500 mm radius around a 50 mm diameter field…
FLEX End-to-End Mission Performance Simulator
2016
The FLuorescence EXplorer (FLEX) mission, selected as the European Space Agency's eighth Earth Explorer, aims to globally measure the sun-induced-chlorophyll-fluorescence spectral emission from terrestrial vegetation. In the frame of the FLEX mission, several industrial and scientific studies have analyzed the instrument design, image processing algorithms, or modeling aspects. At the same time, a common tool is needed to address the overall FLEX mission performance by combining all these features. For this reason, an end-to-end mission performance simulator has been developed for the FLEX mission (FLEX-E). This paper describes the FLEX-E software design, which combines the generation of co…
Gamma-ray position reconstruction in large lanthanum-halide crystals with SiPM readout: analytical vs. neural-network algorithms
2019
The main objective of this research was to achieve an excellent gamma-ray position reconstruction with very large monolithic scintillation crystals coupled to pixelated silicon photosensors. Analyzing the scintillation-light distribution measured along the SiPM-pixels one can get a sub-pixel accuracy for the position reconstruction. The quality of the latter depends on both the characteristics of the crystal-photosensor assembly, and the goodness of the algorithm used to reconstruct the gamma-ray hit location. We have carried out a systematic study for 511 keV gamma-rays using three different crystal thicknesses of 10 mm, 20 mm and 30 mm, all of them with planar geometry and a base size of …
Land Surface Temperature From the Advanced Along-Track Scanning Radiometer: Validation Over Inland Waters and Vegetated Surfaces
2009
The land surface temperature (LST) product of the Advanced Along-Track Scanning Radiometer (AATSR) was validated with ground measurements at the following two thermally homogeneous sites: Lake Tahoe, CA/NV, USA, and a large rice field close to Valencia, Spain. The AATSR LST product is based on the split-window technique using the 11- and 12- mum channels. The algorithm coefficients are provided for 13 different land-cover classes plus one lake class (index i). Coefficients are weighted by the vegetation-cover fraction (f). In the operational implementation of the algorithm, i and f are assigned from a global classification and monthly fractional vegetation-cover maps with spatial resolution…
