Multi-Resolution error analysis of predicted absorption coefficients. Method and application to the infrared spectrum of methane at high temperature.

2010

La version V2 inclut les modifications proposées par les reviewers.; International audience; A general method for the estimation of the confidence interval of molecular absorption coefficients is presented. Statistical numerical experiments are implemented to quantify the propagation of errors from line parameters to absorption coefficients or cross-sections as a function of the resolution. The method uses line parameter predictions (position and intensity) with estimated uncertainties derived from global polyad models. This work is especially intended to provide expert information for applications requiring theoretical predictions for which the present state of the art of line by line high…

Experimental determination of mode I fracture parameters in orthotropic materials by means of Digital Image Correlation

2020

Abstract The mode I fracture parameters for an orthotropic body are directly calculated from full-field deformation measurements provided by Digital Image Correlation (DIC). Three complementary and direct approaches are evaluated and compared: (i) the determination of the Stress Intensity Factor (SIF) by fitting the displacement field using the analytical expression proposed by Lekhnitskii; (ii) the determination of the J-Integral by using the Energy Domain Integral (EDI) formulation on the raw DIC data; and (iii) the calculation of the J-Integral using the EDI approach on the displacement data fitted using Lekhnitskii’s formulation. A comparative experimental study is performed by testing …

On the measurement of local gas hold-up, interfacial area and bubble size distribution in gas–liquid contactors via light sheet and image analysis: I…

2013

Abstract In this work a novel experimental technique for measuring local gas hold-up, interfacial area and bubble size distribution, in gas–liquid systems is proposed. The technique is based on advanced Image Processing coupled with experimental set-ups typically available for Particle Image Velocimetry. A fluorescent dye dissolved in the liquid phase allows to identify in-plane bubbles among all visible bubbles in the images. To this end, a suitable algorithm is proposed. The raw data so obtained are processed by previously developed statistical methods that result in a reliable reconstruction of actual dispersion properties. The technique is applied to the case of a gas-dispersed mechanic…

webAppOS: Creating the Illusion of a Single Computer for Web Application Developers

2020

Unlike traditional single-PC applications, which have access to directly attached computational resources (CPUs, memory, and I/O devices), web applications have to deal with the resources scattered across the network. Besides, web applications are intended to be accessed by multiple users simultaneously. That not only requires a more sophisticated infrastructure but also brings new challenges to web application developers.

Foto2Events: From Photos to Event Discovery and Linking in Online Social Networks

2014

International audience; — Online social networking has become the predominant activity in the digital world thanks to multimedia data (mainly photos) sharing (e.g., photos now represent 93% of the top posts on Facebook). Discovering events where users are involved using their own posts and those shared by their friends would be of great importance. In this paper, we address this issue by providing an original approach able to detect, enrich and also link user's events using photos shared within his online social networks. Using metadata, our approach provides a multi-dimensional gathering of similar photos using their temporal, geographical, and social facets. To validate our approach, we i…

Semantic Annotation and Retrieval of Services in the Cloud

2013

Recently, the economy has taken a downturn, which has forced many companies to reduce their costs in IT. This fact has, conversely, benefited the adoption of innovative computing models such as cloud computing, which allow businesses to reduce their fixed IT costs through outsourcing. As the number of cloud services available on the Internet grows, it is more and more difficult for companies to find those that can meet their needs. Under these circumstances, enabling a semantically-enriched search engine for cloud solutions can be a major breakthrough. In this paper, we present a fully-fledged platform based on semantics that (1) assist in generating a semantic description of cloud services…

Writer identification for historical handwritten documents using a single feature extraction method

2020

International audience; With the growth of artificial intelligence techniques the problem of writer identification from historical documents has gained increased interest. It consists on knowing the identity of writers of these documents. This paper introduces our baseline system for writer identification, tested on a large dataset of latin historical manuscripts used in the ICDAR 2019 competition. The proposed system yielded the best results using Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) as a single feature extraction method, without any preprocessing stage. The system was compared against four teams who participated in the competition with different feature extraction methods: SRS-LBP, SI…

The IXO Wide-Field Imager

2010

The Wide Field Imager (WFI) of the International X-ray Observatory (IXO) is an X-ray imaging spectrometer based on a large monolithic DePFET (Depleted P-channel Field Effect Transistor) Active Pixel Sensor. Filling an area of 10 × 10 cm² with a format of 1024 × 1024 pixels it will cover a field of view of 18 arcmin. The pixel size of 100 × 100 μm² corresponds to a fivefold oversampling of the telescope's expected 5 arcsec point spread function. The WFI's basic DePFET structure combines the functionalities of sensor and integrated amplifier with nearly Fano-limited energy resolution and high efficiency from 100 eV to 15 keV. The development of dedicated control and amplifier ASICs allows for…
