Yoko Tawada und die Bildlichkeit der Buchstaben
2022
This article examines the role of language in the works of the German-Japanese author Yoko Tawada. For the analysis three works in which the writer deals with the languages Japanese and German will be considered: ›Talisman‹, ›Überseezungen‹, and ›Akzentfrei‹. Within the analysis the great imagination of Tawada will be underlined: She invents new words, new linguistic associations and surreal correspondences between signs and images. The world of the writer is a world between reality and fantasy and it must be observed with new eyes in order to be understood.
Il brand «Palermo arabo-normanna» e le sue geografie immaginarie
2023
In 2015, Unesco included the Arab-Norman itinerary of Palermo, Cefalù and Monreale in its list of World Heritage Sites. The application dossier states: “is the international confirmation of the beauty and cultural, artistic and historical greatness of Palermo [...] it will represent (...) a stimulus of tourism development and new economy”. The intentions of the promoting committee are immediately stated: it will be the cultural lever that will set in motion the new foundations of the experience economy (Pine e Gilmore, 1999), now dominant since the end of the 20th and beginning of the 21st century. The underlying question will be “who possesses the powers of imagination – and – where they a…
Cinema as a Place of Educational Practice during the Fascist Regime in Italy (1922-1943)
2021
The evolution of Italian cinema in the first half of the twentieth century is intertwined with the historical events that marked Italy in the period between the two world wars: the coming to power of fascism and the rise to power of Benito Mussolini. Its protectionist policy favored the growth of the film industry that, in few years, created new forms of representation and made cinema a popular and mass art with a great pedagogical impact. He defined cinema as “the strongest weapon” because, through a strategic use of moving images, it had the power to “rule the gaze of the spectators”. After the advent of the sound cinema, from the thirties, the political intervention of the regime promote…
Biopoetica
2022
Siri Hustvedt, a writer who has always known how to combine the analysis of her own bios - of her psychic and physical "fragility" - with the theory of fiction, with particu…
Pictures of Nature. Mineral Imagery in Modern French Aesthetics
2016
Thus, from antiquity to the twentieth century, figured stones have changed so many times their ontological status. They were considered collectibles, emblems of prodigiousness or of curiosity; they have been interpreted as works of art attributed to nature or to a supreme creator, in competition with the works of the artists; they were finally gazed at as case or guardians of a secret revealed in the underground and overt (at the meantime) „stone writing”. This study is devoted to the forms of mineral imagery. It is interested in enlightening the contacts between visual arts and arts of speech, between sensitive image and immaterial images, and the difficult journeys, and the indispensable …
Teatr historii, teatr wyobraźni : Juliusz Słowacki - Tadeusz Miciński
2013
This paper is an attempt to present the parallels between Słowacki’s and Miciński’s dramatic works, with an emphasis on the domains that have not yet been compared. It juxtaposes the following aspects: spectacularity, theatricality, and the presence and functioning of meta-theatrical gags. The anticipatory character of Słowacki’s works with respect to the paradigms of modernist culture was noticed as early as by the end of the 19th century. In the 21st century, the search for similarities between these two authors’ texts is still justifiable, yet it neither implies abandoning the tropes outlined by the modernists, nor forces polemics with studies developed in the second part of the 20th cen…

Transcendentalism, mysticism and imagination in the poetic discourse of Jones Very, Wallace Stevens and Stanley Cavell
2019
The Role of Second-language Learning in diagnosing Students Gaps of Knowledge. Towards a symptomatic Use of Interdisciplinarity
2012
Abstract This discussion-paper aims to present a concrete, albeit untested, hypothesis regarding how second-language learning lessons could prove useful in diagnosing essential signs of confusion, misunderstanding, or of any other kind of cognitive blunder which affects the scientific knowledge of late primary-education students (aged 10-12). In opposition to the somewhat rigid means of evaluation normally employed in content-oriented subjects, such as History, Biology, etc. —exams, tests and written assignments, carried out, as a rule, in the children‘s native language—, this discussion-paper defends that the accuracy of the student's knowledge may also, though not only, be evaluated by pa…
Decentralization in Ukraine and Bottom-Up European Integration
2020
Decentralization is one of the most profound reforms undertaken in Ukraine. It includes the voluntary merging of previously independent villages and towns into larger Amalgamated Territorial Communities (ATCs). The European Union strongly supports the reform but does not make Ukraine’s further European integration conditional upon it. In order to study whether decentralization can, nevertheless, contribute to the country’s European integration, this chapter adopts a sociological perspective. It asks whether decentralization has led to an increase in community twinning and participation of Ukrainian communities in transnational municipal networks. It is based on a survey conducted among the …
