Phenomenology as Ecology: Movement from Ego- to Geo- and Eco-Thinking
2018
A paradigmatic change of thinking is taking place at present – away from the transcendental themes of mind, ego, and language, towards the world, reality, immanence, and the realms of the Earth and the cosmos. This change marks the ecological turn of philosophy. Awareness of the new ecological situation has produced a whole range of new directions of research – e.g., eco-philosophy, environmental philosophy, philosophy of nature, deep ecology, ecocriticism, ecofeminism, and ecoscepticism. This article is therefore concerned with the relations among eco-philosophy, environmental philosophy, and phenomenology. Phenomenology occupies an important place in the apprehension of the present-day ec…
When Living Is Only Not Dying
2020
Abstract This article examines the intertwining of oppression, animality, and biological life in Simone de Beauvoir’s concept of immanence. Analyzing the roots of this discussion in G.W.F. Hegel’s philosophy and tracing its development from Pyrrhus and Cineas to The Second Sex, the author suggests that Beauvoir’s insight that oppression involves a deprivation of transcendence is of lasting value, whereas her concept of immanence remains problematic.
Co-Creative, Re-Generative Smart Cities. Smart Cities and Planning in a Living Lab Perspective
2014
A particularly mild approach in money supply over three decades at the international level has encouraged the piling up of substantial amounts of debt through urban investment, particularly in less competitive systems . It appears therefore necessary ato elaborate stringent "urban financial statements", through a kind of digital agenda able to provide georeferenced economic indicators about structure, value and performance of urban capital, and therefore capable to serve as a guide in future allocative choices of the myriad of holders of some stake of the above urban capital. Recognizing the role of such a multiplicity of stakeholders means to radically reconsider the transcendent assumptio…
Modeling Metaphysics: The Rise of Simulation and the Reversal of Platonism
2019
Philosophical reflection on and around Modeling and Simulation (M&S) is often focused on the ethical and epistemological implications of empirical findings or innovative methods within the field. In this paper I highlight some of the metaphysical implications of developments within M&S. I argue that the rise of simulation within and across scientific disciplines is accelerating the reversal of Platonism, whose emphasis on transcendence and reliance on hierarchical, static categories has dominated western philosophy for over two millennia. The success of M&S methodologies opens up new conceptual space for articulating a metaphysics of immanence that may provide a more adequate basis for unde…
Feminisme neoliberal: un oxímoron?
2018
Neoliberal Feminism: An Oxymoron?
