Este trabajo analiza, en primer lugar, las percepciones y actitudes hacia la violencia de pareja contra la mujer de los inmigrantes latinoamericanos y de la población española y, en segundo lugar, explora los correlatos de las actitudes hacia la denuncia de casos de violencia de pareja contra la mujer en una muestra de inmigrantes latinoamericanos. Para ello, se utilizan 3 fuentes de datos que incorporan dos muestras representativas de la población española y un muestra de inmigrantes latinoamericanos. Within the current political context of global migration the concept of ‘identity’ has played a major role in the struggle between assimilative and exclusionary practices and policies. Such policies in many cases are the result of a wronged imagination about human identity and the subjects who possess it. The dehumanization of whiteness in Maxine Hong Kingston’s The Woman Warrior (1976) inheres in the overarching ghosthood metaphor. While first generation Chinese American immigrants in The Woman Warrior attribute the power of transforming people into ghosts to the United States of America as a country, the questioning of a person’s humanity by calling them a “ghost” is not reserved for white people alone. Immigrant Detention Centres in Spain: a critical assessment

This paper presents a critical examination of the management of irregular migration flows in Spain and the legal principles and administrative practices implemented by the State in the process of expulsion that legitimise the existence of Immigrant Detention Centres (CIE). It also provides a description of the current situation of the CIE, and reports on the most recent proposals made by the Spanish government to improve the management of CIE in response to pressure exerted by civil society organisations, especially after public protests regarding the death of two inmates in December 2011 and January 2012.
