Serum sIL-2-R levels were measured in 28 sarcoidosis patients at multiple time points before, during, and after therapy, with a mean follow-up time of 10.2 +/- 5.2 months, and the results compared with the clinical activity of the disease. Before therapy, 20 out of 24 episodes with active disease exhibited elevated levels of sIL-2-R (918 +/- 362 U/ml). In inactive disease after tapering off corticoid therapy the sIL-2-R levels were 453 +/- 274 U/ml. Disease activity under therapy also correlated with sIL-2-R serum levels. 23 out of 29 episodes with signs of activity under therapy had elevated sIL-2-R levels (808 +/- 409 U/ml). Dysregulation of apoptosis is associated with the pathogenesis of organ-specific autoimmune diseases, through altered target organ susceptibility. Apoptosis signaling pathways can be initiated through activation of death receptors such as Fas. A comparative analysis of the expression of Fas and FasL, the antiapoptotic molecule Bcl-2, and apoptosis in both thyrocytes and thyroid-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) from patients with either Graves' disease (GD) or Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) was performed. Purpose Real-world HRU and medical cost analyses support drug development in SLE. The economic burden of SLE as a function of disease severity was quantified for a German cohort. Methods HRU and cost analyses were performed for patients (≥18 years old) with SLE and compared with those of matched controls for 2009–2014 using the Betriebskrankenkassen (BKK) German Sickness Fund Database. BKK is a branch of the statutory German health insurance. SUMMARY: We evaluated polymorphonuclear leucocyte (PMN) flow properties in patients with clinically stable chronic renal failure (CRF) and in control subjects at baseline and after activation with 4-phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) and N-formyl-methionyl-leucyl-phenylalanine (fMLP). Initial relative flow rate (IRFR) and clogging particles (CPs) were obtained using the St. George's Filtrometer, and PMN membrane fluidity was assessed by marking PMNs with 1-(4-(trimethylamino)phenyl)-6-phenyl-1,3,5-hexatriene (TMA-DPH).
