Immediate bleeding complications in dental implants: A systematic review

2014

Objective: A review is made of the immediate or immediate postoperative bleeding complications in dental implants, with a view to identifying the areas of greatest bleeding risk, the causes of bleeding, the length of the implants associated with bleeding, the most frequently implicated blood vessels, and the treatments used to resolve these complications. Material and Methods: A Medline (PubMed) and Embase search was made of articles on immediate bleeding complications in dental implants published in English up until May 2014. Inclusion criteria: studies in humans subjects with severe bleeding immediately secondary to implant placement, which reported the time until the hemorrhage, the impl…

Customized Titanium Lattice Structure in Three-Dimensional Alveolar Defect: An Initial Case Letter

2018

The aim of this initial case report was to provide a new protocol for the clinical application of a patient-specific titanium lattice structure (Yxoss CBR®, ReOSS, Filderstadt, Germany) for customized bone regeneration. To obtain a 3-dimensional reconstruction of a posterior mandible segment in a 61-year-old woman, a patient-specific titanium customized lattice structure was used. As graft material autogenous bone tissue mixed with xenogenic alloplastic material (Bio Oss®, Geistlich Pharma, Wolhusen, Switzerland) was obtained for reconstruction. After a healing period of 6 months, the titanium lattice structure was removed and implant placement (Camlog Screw Line, 3.8/11, Camlog, Wimsheim, …

Irritative and sensory disturbances in oral implantology. Literature review.

2010

The aim of this study was to review irritative and sensory disturbances following placement of dental implants. A literature search was made of PubMed for articles published between 2000 and 2010. Studies that reported sensory disturbances directly caused by the placement of dental implants were included. Sensory deficits or trigeminal neuropathy are caused by damage to the third branch of the trigeminal nerve du-ring surgery. This manifests in the immediate postoperative period as a sensory deficit not usually associated with pain and generally transient. The literature reviewed reported irritative and sensory disturbances caused during surgery, after surgery, and as a result of complicati…

Effect of the lack of primary stability in the survival of dental implants

2018

Background The survival of dental implants has been linked to primary stability. The aim of this study is to analyse the factors that influence the survival of dental implants placed without primary stability. Material and methods A cohort study of implants placed without primary stability was carried out between September 2011 and July 2016. All cases with registered information on the patient and surgical intervention were used. Cases that did not have a 12-month follow-up after implant placement were excluded. Results Out of 2,400 analysed implants, 92 were placed without primary stability. The absence of primary stability was classified as B in 49 cases, C in 38 cases and D in 5 cases. …

Survival of implants placed with the osteotome technique : an update. Review

2012

A literature review is made to analyze the survival of implants placed with the osteotome technique. A PubMed search was made based on the key words “osteotome AND dental implants”, corresponding to publications between 1998-2008. The inclusion criteria were: a) a minimum of 10 patients; b) a minimum follow-up of 6 months; c) implants placed using the osteotome technique with or without indirect sinus lift; and d) specification of the implant number and survival rate. Sixty-four articles were identified, of which 20 met the inclusion criteria. A total of 2006 implants were placed in 1312 patients using the osteotome technique. The duration of follow-up after prosthetic loading ranged from 6…

Current state of dynamic surgery. A literature review.

2021

Background Recently, dental implant technology has been widely used for oral reconstruction. Dental implants are the treatment of choice for those patients with dental absences. An optimal implant placement is based on the prosthetic driven concept in order to achieve an aesthetic and functional restoration with a long-term prognosis. There are two types of guided implant surgery that are described in the literature: Static Guided Surgery (SGS) and Dynamic Guided Surgery (DGS). The aim of this study is to be aware of the current state of dynamic surgery and compare in the literature the discrepancies between planning and placement of dental implants. Material and Methods The study consists …

Osteotome sinus floor elevation without grafting material: Results of a 2-year prospective study

2014

Objectives: The aim of this prospective clinical trial was to evaluate the success implant rates during 24 months using OSFE procedure without grafting materials. Study Design: 42 adult patients (22 female, 15 male) were selected according to Nedir et al ?s inclusion criteria of which 5 patients were excluded, due to periapical pathology in adjacent teeth (n=3) and treatment with bisphos - phonates (n=2). 37 patients aged 31-68 years were selected. Smokers were divided in two groups depending on the number of cigarettes consumed per day (a) 0-10, (b) 11-20. One patient was excluded because he was lost to follow- up at 24 months A total of 36 threaded implants were placed, | 4,1mm Straumann®…

Advantages and limitations of implant surgery with CAD/CAM surgical guides : a literature review

2020

Background The purpose of this study is to review the available literature associated with implant surgery using computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) surgical guides and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this advanced technique. Material and Methods An electronic literature search was conducted in the PubMed database for the relevant information on implant placement with CAD/CAM surgical guides. This review was constructed following PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines. Articles were limited to those published within the past 10 years and in the English language. Only clinical studies were included. Inclusio…
