Metarhizium anisopliae, a potential agent for the control of grape phylloxera

This investigation deals with the control effects of the insect pathogenic fungus Metarhizium anisopliae var. anisopliae on Daktulosphaira vitifoliae. In pot experiments, the soil surrounding phylloxera-infected grapes was inoculated with barley colonised with M. anisopliae. After thirty-two days, ineight of ten Metarhizium-applied pots nofresh phylloxera infections could be observed.In two of ten plants, a few fresh nodositiessingly occupied with phylloxera or phylloxeraeggs could be found. Phenobarbital Induction of UDP-glucosyltransferase Activity in Drosophila melanogaster Meigen

The inducibility of UDP-glucosyltransferase activities towards the exogenous substrates 1-naphthol and 2-naphthol and the endogenous metabolite xanthurenic acid was demonstrated in Drosophila melanogaster Meigen larvae and adults using phenobarbital as an inducer. In adults, a 3.5-fold increase of glucosyltransferase activity toward xanthurenic acid and a 2.0-fold increase of the activity toward exogenous substrates (1-naphthol and 2-naphthol) was found. Annotated Check-List of Orthoptera of Libya

Abstract A list of Libyan Orthoptera is presented based on specimens preserved in Museums, incorporating all (previously published or unpublished) label information. Overall, 141 species are included, of which four are new records for the country. Given within “species inquirendae” are another six species, with the reasons for confirming their presence. Libya's orthopteran fauna is probably not rich, but our knowledge of it is far from exhaustive.

Raunoloma longiceps(Linnavuori, 1977) (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Cydnidae): First Record from Uganda

The present note reports the first Ugandan record of Raunoloma longiceps (Linnavuori, 1977), a rarely collected African burrower bug species (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Cydnidae). This record increases the number of Cydnidae genera reported from Uganda to seven, with a total of 12 species. Cydnidae belong to the superfamily Pentatomoidea and are known by almost 700 species distributed in all zoogeographical regions of the world (Lis 1996, 1999, 2006; Lis & Lis 2014). Molecular phylogeny, biogeographic history, and evolution of cave-dwelling taxa in the European harvestman genusIschyropsalis(Opiliones: Dyspnoi)

Abstract We estimated a multigenic molecular phylogeny and reconstructed biogeographic history for the European harvestman genus Ischyropsalis C.L. Koch 1839 (Dyspnoi). To reconstruct historical biogeographic patterns we conducted an algorithmic VIP analysis which revealed patterns consistent with a vicariance-dominated history. The existing morphology-based systematic framework for Ischyropsalis is mostly inconsistent with molecular phylogenetic results, and a new informal system is established that recognizes three main clades and several sub-clades. Mediterranean representatives of the galling aphid tribe Fordini (Hemiptera: Aphididae: Eriosomatinae) are usually grouped under the subtribe term Fordina. Aphids within Fordina display two-year life cycles, alternating between Pistacia shrubs, where they induce conspicuous galls, and roots of Poaceae species. The high number of morphs present in a given species, the lack of knowledge of the complete cycle in some species, and the similarity between homologous morphs observed in different species pose many taxonomic problems in this group.
