Nonlinear FE analysis of out-of-plane behaviour of masonry walls with and without CFRP reinforcement
2014
Abstract The out-of-plane behaviour of unreinforced and CFRP reinforced masonry wall is studied by means of experimental investigation and numerical FE modelling. The latter is based on a linear constitutive law both for ashlars and mortar joints constituting masonry and the lines of potential delamination are taken into account by means of an interface element with bi-linear law, reproducing the opening failure mode. When reinforcement is introduced, an interface element with bi-linear law is also used, reproducing sliding failure mode. Comparison between numerical and experimental results show the reliability of the modelling. Moreover, a parametric analysis is carried out in order to inv…
Relaciones padres-médicos en oncología: un enfoque cualitativo
2010
Negative association between parental care and sibling cooperation in earwigs: a new perspective on the early evolution of family life?
2015
International audience; The evolution of family life requires net fitness benefits for offspring, which are commonly assumed to mainly derive from parental care. However, an additional source of benefits for offspring is often overlooked: cooperative interactions among juvenile siblings. In this study, we examined how sibling cooperation and parental care could jointly contribute to the early evolution of family life. Specifically, we tested whether the level of food transferred among siblings (sibling cooperation) in the European earwig F orficula auricularia (1) depends on the level of maternal food provisioning (parental care) and (2) is translated into offspring survival, as well as fem…

Asymmetric Demand Information and Foreign Direct Investment
2007
We examine the FDI versus exports decision of firms competing in an oligopolistic (quantitysetting) market under demand uncertainty and asymmetric information. Compared to a firm that chooses to export, a firm that chooses to set up a plant in the host market has superior information about local market demand. In addition to the well-known tension between the fixed set-up costs of investment, the additional variable costs of exports and oligopoly sizes, the incentive to invest abroad is explained by the strategic learning effect. FDI may be observed even if trade costs are zero. The analysis is robust to price competition and to the possibility that a foreign firm can engage in both FDI and…
Changing the Corporate Elite? Not so Easy: Female Directorss Appointments Onto Corporate Boards
2013
Scholars have previously investigated country and organizational-level factors associated with the incidence of female directors on boards. These studies, however, cannot explain why, in countries with strong gender equality and pressure for female directorships, firms are still hesitant to promote new women to their boards. To address this issue we – in this study – introduce the cognitive and affective processes related to directors’ identification with the traditional corporate elite as an explanation for the slow organizational response to pressure for gender diversity on boards. We bridge the social identity and critical mass theory to further show how these responses may vary with the…

Pembrolizumab in First-line Gastric Cancer: Win, Lose, or Draw?
2020
IMPORTANCE: Safe and effective therapies for untreated, advanced gastric/gastroesophageal junction (G/GEJ) cancer remain an unmet need. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the antitumor activity of pembrolizumab, pembrolizumab plus chemotherapy, or chemotherapy alone in patients with untreated, advanced G/GEJ cancer with programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) combined positive score (CPS) of 1 or greater. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: The phase 3 KEYNOTE-062 randomized, controlled, partially blinded interventional trial enrolled 763 patients with untreated, locally advanced/unresectable or metastatic G/GEJ cancer with PD-L1 CPS of 1 or greater from 200 centers in 29 countries between September 18, …
Haploidentical Stem Cell Transplantation With Posttransplant Cyclophosphamide Therapy vs Other Donor Transplantations in Adults With Hematologic Canc…
2019
Question What are the outcomes of haploidentical stem cell transplantation with posttransplant cyclophosphamide therapy compared with other transplant types in adults with hematologic cancers? Findings In this meta-analysis of 30 studies including 22974 patients, the use of haploidentical stem cell transplantation with posttransplant cyclophosphamide therapy appeared to show increased all-cause mortality compared with matched related donors, similar all-cause mortality compared with matched unrelated donors, and reduced all-cause mortality compared with mismatched unrelated donors. Relapse appeared to be increased in lymphoma and similar in acute leukemia compared with matched unrelated don…
