Indagine sperimentale su nodi di tralicci in acciaio di travi reticolari miste
2009
Results of experimental tests on welded joints of steel truss of encased composite steel-concrete beams are presented. The welding of the inclined web bars to top bars, both of steel type B450C, and to bottom steel plate, the latter made of S355 steel type, are tested. Two analytical expressions for prediction of welding strength are derived: the one based on a resistance criterion and the other based on a limit domain of the welding section. Guidelines for choosing the effective dimensions of the fillet weld, necessary to determine the strength, are provided. A high precision digital scanner is used to validate the suggested guidelines to determine the geometrical characteristics of the fi…
Performance Assessment of Basalt FRCM for the Confinement of Clay Brick Masonry Cylinders
2021
Fibre Reinforced Cementitious Matrix (FRCM) composites have been proved to be a suitable strengthening material for masonry structures in the last years. Moreover, basalt fibres are increasingly used as reinforcement of composites as a more sustainable alternative to glass fibres. The goal of this work is to investigate the effectiveness of basalt FRCM to confine masonry circular columns. A total of eighteen clay brick masonry cylinders were tested in compression. The specimens were cored from two different masonry assemblies and wrapped with one or two layers of BFRCM composite. The stress-strain curves and the gains of strength and strain capacity of confined cylinders compared to the con…
Travi reticolari miste- Problemi locali nella trasmissione degli sforzi
2009
Experimental test results on the local behavior of the typical Italian typology of hybrid steel-to-concrete beam are presented and discussed in order to provide insight on transfer mechanism between different components of the beam. Preliminarily, in order to investigate on the bearing capacity of the welding and on the local instability problems that can arise in the trusses before concrete casting, tensile tests on specimens reproducing different types of welded joints, and push-out tests on bare specimen have been performed. Then, the transfer mechanism between steel trusses and concrete is investigated by means of push-out tests carried out also in displacement controlled mode. Results …
Experimental investigation on high-strength fibre-reinforced concrete beams subjected to bending and shear
2008
The results of an experimental campaign carried out on a number of high-strength concrete beams loaded in 4-point bending are presented in this paper, where the roles of the both steel hooked fibres and the transverse reinforcement are investigated, for different values of the shear span. All tests were displacement-controlled. The results – mostly in terms of load-deflection curves – confirm what is well known in the literature, that an adequate amount of steel fibres can turn a brittle shear-type failure into a ductile flexural-type failure, to the advantage of the ultimate bearing capacity in flexure and shear, that can be fully exploited without increasing the transverse reinforcement. …

The recent change in the Italian policies for photovoltaics: Effects on the payback period and levelized cost of electricity of grid-connected photov…
2015
Abstract This paper provides an economic analysis of the investment in grid-connected PV (photovoltaic) systems installed on the rooftops of buildings located in densely urbanised contexts. The analysis was applied to some case studies that were selected as representative of the latitudes of the southern, central and northern Italy. The returns of the investment in PV systems were investigated with the aim of comparing the impact of the current PV policy, based on the tax credit scheme, with the FIT (feed-in tariff) scheme, in force until July 2013. The cash flows related to the disbursements and benefits during the lifetime of the investment were computed for each combination of orientatio…
Wave and Wind Energy Systems Integration in Vietnam: Analysis of Energy Potential and Economic Feasibility
2020
Vietnam energy demand is currently growing at a very high annual rate, with the government being very interested in investments in renewable energies. Since the region with the highest solar and wind potential is far away from the big load centers, an investigation of offshore energy resources is here proposed. In this study, a review of previous energy potential assessments is provided. Moreover, the minimum feed-in-tariff to make the investments profitable is evaluated, showing that the current tariff for offshore wind plants is largely unattractive.
WHY CORPORATES INVEST IN THE SAME START-UP AN EXPLORATIVE ANALYSIS OF CVC SYNDICATIONS
2016
This study investigates why two or more corporates co-invest in the same start-up syndicating their CVC activities. Based on two strands of literature, the CVC and the alliance, we propose a research framework that explores the possible antecedents of CVC syndications. Particularly, grounded on alliance literature, we look at the CVC syndication by combining two dimensions, relational and technological: the relational dimension describes the competitive or cooperative nature of the relationship between partners of CVC syndications, while the technological one represents the exploitative or explorative technological objectives that corporates could pursue when coinvesting in a start-up. We a…
FORME ASIMMETRICHE E NULLITA' SELETTIVE PER I CONTRATTI RELATIVI ALLA PRESTAZIONE DEI SERVIZI DI INVESTIMENTO
2020
The paper focuses on some critical aspects related to the issue of formalism in investment contracts; it focuses in particular on the inconsistencies arising from the recent opinion expressed by the United Sections of the Court of Cassation as regard to the “selective” nullity
Foreign direct investment and the rule of law in Africa in the context of legal integration
2018
This essay focuses on the relationship between foreign direct investment (FDI) and the rule of law in the context of legal integration in Africa, outside of the AfCFTA agreement. Specifically, the essay investigates the concept of the rule of law, taking into account its ‘dynamic’ side, that is the power to shape and model the structure of a state using the example of OHADA. The OHADA framework shows that the relationship between foreign direct investment (FDI) and the rule of law is not unilateral but a ‘two-way mutual’ relationship where both actors contribute to the success of the system, adapting to each other in order to achieve their respective goals.
