Vertical FDI Revisited

This study explores how relative skilled-wage premia affect FDI. Contrary to previous studies based on factor endowment differences, we find strong support for vertical FDI, in the sense that more FDI is conducted in countries where unskilled labor is relatively cheap. In addition, we find that relative skill-premia also affect FDI activities that have previously been associated with horizontal FDI, i.e. local affiliate sales. Consequently, the potential effects of changes in the relative wage costs on international production reallocation within MNEs are large. Bioaccessibility of tocopherols, carotenoids, and ascorbic acid from milk- and soy-based fruit beverages: Influence of food matrix and processing

A study was made of the effect of high-pressure processing (HPP) and thermal treatment (TT) on plant bioactive compounds (tocopherols, carotenoids, and ascorbic acid) in 12 fruit juice-milk beverages and of how the food matrix [whole milk (JW), skimmed milk (JS), and soy milk (JSy)] modulates their bioaccessibility (%). HPP (400 MPa/40 °C/5 min) produced a significant decrease in carotenoid and ascorbic acid bioaccessibility in all three beverages and maintained the bioaccessibility of tocopherols in JW and JS while decreasing it in JSy. Motives for partial acquisitions between firms in the spanish stock market

The paper analyses the motivations for inter-company investment on the Spanish Stock Market through the study of a sample of significant acquisitions reported to the CNMV (the Spanish Securities and Exchange Commission) by quoted firms. By analysing the sign of the cumulative abnormal returns (CAR) and of the correlations among the gains produced by the operation, an attempt is made to find out which motives predominate of the three most important ones suggested by the literature for takeovers: synergy, agency and hubris. Throughout the present research I intend to demonstrate the powerful link between the vocal practice in accompanied monody and the way Early Italian violin music ought to be interpreted. Due to the scarce amount of articulation and ornamentation in this music, I consider that historical criteria should be found in order to back up the subjective choices in its performance. According to this, I focus on reviewing sources that describe the vocal practice around 1600, but also contemporary sources in which we can find instructions addressed to bow instruments. What are the dominant stocks which drive the correlations present among stocks traded in a stock market? Can a correlation analysis provide an answer to this question? In the past, correlation based networks have been proposed as a tool to uncover the underlying backbone of the market.
