Scientific investigation to preserve our architectural heritage: experimental application in Sicily between 2002 and 2012

The essay introduces the result of thermographic surveys and other scientific applications on some Sicilian monuments, and demonstrates the clear evolution of the method to support an effective conservation of ancient buildings. The method introduced is useful to get a metric thermal image to be edited with the photogrammetric image of the architectural surfaces simultaneously, and related with the results of other kind of diagnostic tests. Some examples of its application are introduced and critically commented to understand all the potentialities of the investigation in the discipline of the restoration of cultural heritage.

The aim of our thesis, which comes within the scope of considering the process of rewriting classic texts in the time period of the second sophistic, is to study the unique importance of Odysseus in the writings of Lucian of Samosata. At first, Odysseus is distinguished from Achilles, a character more monolithic who, even in Homer’s works is constructed in contrast to Odysseus. Moreover, from an isolated quote to intricate references, scattered to create echoes between works seemingly very different, the context in which Odysseus appears is more elaborate and subtler than that of Achilles. El presente trabajo busca evaluar la creación de empresas por parte de ex empleados de empresas multinacionales de inversión extranjera directa. En concreto, se busca dimensionar el fenómeno, caracterizarlo, así como valorar el desempeño de las empresas creadas. El estudio se hizo mediante un muestreo aleatorio simple con margen de error del 7% y nivel de confianza del 95%, sobre una base de datos de 11.120 ex empleados de empresas multinacionales en Costa Rica (n = 175). Determinants of Individual Investment Decisions in Investment-Based Crowdfunding

We investigate determinants of investment decisions in investment-based (equity and real estate) crowdfunding, using a novel investment-, investor- and campaign-level database. We find that this market is a man's world, with nearly 93% of investments made by men. Consistent with behavioral and finance theories, we find that women invest less in the riskiest investments but more in safer ones. Further analyses show that these findings are better explained by differences in risk aversion than differences in overconfidence between men and women. The role of trust in promoting economic activity and societal development has received considerable academic attention by social scientists. A popular way to measure trust at the individual level is the so-called “investment game” (Berg, Dickhaut, and McCabe, 1995). It has been widely noted, however, that risk attitudes can also affect decisions in this game, and thus in principle confound inferences about trust. The regulatory framework of the EU Structural and Investment Funds (ESI Funds) has a strong territorial dimension and support to designated territories, particularly municipalities, is common.
