Bis[indanyl]- and bis[indenyl]arylmethanes: New molecular three-bladed propellers

1991

Proton-catalyzed arylmethylation of indan and indene derivatives with 4-methoxybenzaldehyde yield novel triarylmethanes bearing indan or indene substituents. According to Mislow's definition, these molecules belong to the class of molecular three-bladed propellers and exhibit an interesting stereochemistry.

Retrieval of chlorophyll content and LAI of crops using hyperspectral techniques: application to PROBA/CHRIS data

2008

Hyperspectral/multiangular data allow the retrieval of important vegetation properties at canopy level, such as the Leaf Area Index (LAI) and Leaf Chlorophyll Content. Current methods are based on the relationship between biophysical properties and retrievals from those spectral bands (from the complete hyperspectral/multiangular information) where specific absorption features are present within the considered spectral range. Furthermore, new sensors such as PROBA/CHRIS provide continuous hyperspectral reflectance measurements that can be considered as a continuous function of wavelength. The mathematical analysis of these continuous functions allows a new way of exploiting the relationship…

1981

A new interferometer has been designed in order to perform measurements of refractive indices and refractive index increments on liquid systems under elevated pressure at different temperatures. The method of measurement, the calibration of the instrument and the treatment of data are described. With a series of test measurements on trans-decalin it is shown that with this instrument reliable results are obtained.

Performance Test of Various Teeth Diameter of Cylinder Type Sago Rasping Machine

2021

Traditional method of sago starch extraction was a time and labor intensive process. The most laborious stage is pith disintegration which is done by using hammer-like tools called pounder. However, the use of rasping machine to disintegrate the pith is saving time and energy significantly. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of teeth diameter and cylinder rotation speed on performance of cylinder type sago rasping machine. In the experiment, four variations of teeth diameter i.e. 3mm, 4 mm, 5 mm and 6 mm, and three levels of cylinder rotation speed i.e. 1500 rpm, 2000 rpm and 2500 rpm were examined. Results showed that both teeth diameter and cylinder rotation speed s…

Structure and mechanical properties of Al–B composite powder

1997

Abstract Al-B composite powder has been obtained by crushing pieces of composite material presenting industrial waste. Structural peculiarities and microhardness of separate powder particles (d∼1 mm) have been investigated. Original design of high precision microhardness tester made it possible to detect the properties of powder both in near-surface layer and below it. The powder represents a new structurally non-homogenous material with the increased microhardness (1.5 GPa) which grows up to 4 GPa in near-surface layers. Stable oxide compounds are formed on internal surfaces and defects of the aluminium alloy. Powder compacts were obtained. Adhesion on Al–B and Al–Al interfaces at various …

Refractive Indices and Deviations in Refractive Indices of Trifluoromethanesulfonate-Based Ionic Liquids in Water

2011

Refractive indices were determined for four different ionic liquid + water binary systems, from (288.15 to 338.15) K, and covering the entire composition range. The four ionic liquids used were 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate, 3-butyl-1-ethylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate, 3-butyl-1-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate, and 1-butyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium trifluoromethanesulfonate, all of them being completely miscible in water. From the experimental data, deviations in refractive indices, defined on a volume fraction basis, have been calculated and fitted to an extended version of the Redlich–Kister equation. The behavior of the deviations in refractive in…

Novel Lymphocyte-Independent Antitumor Activity by PD-1 Blocking Antibody against PD-1+ Chemoresistant Lung Cancer Cells

2022

Abstract Purpose: Antibodies against the lymphocyte PD-1 (aPD-1) receptor are cornerstone agents for advanced non–small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), based on their ability to restore the exhausted antitumor immune response. Our study reports a novel, lymphocyte-independent, therapeutic activity of aPD-1 against NSCLC, blocking the tumor-intrinsic PD-1 receptors on chemoresistant cells. Experimental Design: PD-1 in NSCLC cells was explored in vitro at baseline, including stem-like pneumospheres, and following treatment with cisplatin both at transcriptional and protein levels. PD-1 signaling and RNA sequencing were assessed. The lymphocyte-independent antitumor activity of aPD-1 was explored in…

Body mass index in the early years in relation to motor coordination at the age of 5–7 years

2017

Physical activity (PA) and body mass index (BMI) are consistently associated with motor coordination (MC) in children. However, we know very little how BMI in early childhood associates with MC later in childhood. This study investigated associations between BMI in early childhood and BMI, PA, and MC in middle childhood. Children aged 5 to 7 years (n = 64, 32 girls) were measured for MC using Körperkoordinationstest für Kinder (KTK) and for moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA) using triaxial accelerometers. Prevailing body weight and height were measured, and information on weight and height in early years was based on parental report of child health care report cards. Age-adjusted BMIz scores we…

The systemic immune-inflammation index and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio in pediatric burned patients – a pilot study

2023

Introduction: The aim was to assess the usefulness of blood analytical markers such as systemic immuneinflammation index (SII) and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in pediatric burned patients. Material and methods: The study group included 73 children (23 girls and 50 boys; mean age: 3.83; SD: 4.77; min–max: 0–17 years old) hospitalized due to burns. A retrospective analysis of selected complete blood cell count parameters (leucocytes; platelets – PLT; SII; NLR) collected on the day of injury and selected parameters of burns (extent, depth of the injury, duration of hospitalization, type of treatment) was performed. Results: Children with burns that exceeded 10% total body surface area ha…
