In this chapter, Keith Breen and Onni Hirvonen examine the case for democratic worker voice based on the republican ideal of freedom as non-domination. While not unconvincing, this case is primarily consequentialist in character and therefore open to significant empirical disagreement. Recently, Kim (2000)1 and Busetti and Taylor (2004) have proposed different ratio-based procedures to test the hypothesis of stationarity against the alternative of changing persistence.2 This includes the alternative of a process changing from 1(0) to I(1) and vice versa, although Busetti and Taylor (2004) show that Kim's original test (2000) is inconsistent against fixed I(1) I(0) alternatives. Bilateral Monopoly: A Contribution by Francesco Ferrara

In this paper, we propose an interpretation of the application of "cost of reproduction" of Francesco Ferrara to the exchange between two agents to highlight its relevance for the theory of bilateral monopoly. In the Teoria delle Mercedi (1863), Ferrara gives a numerical example to explain price determination in the exchange between one buyer and one seller. Here, this example is translated into a mathematical model that reproduces the fundamental issues of the neoclassical debate on the indeterminacy of price in the Cournot model (1938), and anticipates the solutions proposed by Edgeworth (1881) at the end of this debate.

AbstractIn the framework of small deformations, the so-called residual-based gradient plasticity theory is reconsidered and improved. Using the notion of moving geometrically necessary dislocations (GNDs), suitable micromechanics interpretations are heuristically given for the higher order boundary conditions and the long distance particle interactions. Also, a comparison is made between this theory and the analogous virtual work principle (VWP)-based one, whereby their respective conceptual and methodological features are pointed out. We present an educational path for the magnetic vector potential A aimed at undergraduate students and pre-service physics teachers. Starting from the generalized Ampere–Laplace law, in the framework of a slowly varying time-dependent field approximation, the magnetic vector potential is written in terms of its empirical references, i.e. the conduction currents.
