Bacterial and chemical indicator of coastal water pollution.

This study has been carried out to compare the presence of some organic compounds of long environmental persistance (OCLEP) and heavy metals, in sea water samples, with faecal pollution indicators. Along the Sicily coast line three sites with different grade of pollution (urban, agricultural, industrial) were sampled. 69 samples were obtained from October 1987 to May 1990. Only indicators of faecal pollution were found linked to human settlements, while the other investigated anthropogenic activity related substances were found independently from sampling area.

Within the scope of the Integrated Rhine Program an ecological flood gate and channel was inserted into the polder “Ingelheim” to enhance animal and plant diversity. In 2008, carabid beetles and springtails were collected, using pitfall traps, to measure the effects of ecological flooding and a strong precipitation event at a flood-disturbed and a dry location in this area. At both localities, xerophilic and mesophilic carabid beetle species were dominant throughout the study period. Fossil fuel price increases, their uneven distribution, environmental issues from their incineration, and lack of guarantees of their energy security are the main drivers for the development of green energy. Agricultural waste is an abundant resource for energy bioprocessing, which improves the functioning of the circular economy. In this study, the following were used as the main indicators: the share of renewable energy and the benefit from it, the coefficient of cyclical use of biomass, and the reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.
