Lo studio si propone di esaminare la relazione dei distretti industriali, del ruolo delle medio-grandi imprese e dell’appartenenza alla macro-area territoriale della “virgola di ponente” con l’inefficienza tecnica attraverso la stima delle frontiere stocastiche di produzione a livello di settori produttivi manifatturieri e dei settori della meccanica nelle differenti regioni italiane nel periodo 2008-2010, utilizzando dati ISTAT.
