Braking procedure analysis of a pegs-wing ventilated disk brake rotor

Fade test results of a ventilated disk brake rotor with pegs-wing performed by means of an inertia dynamometer, consisting of 14 repeated brake applications from an initial brake speed of 160 km/h down to 0 km/h, with constant deceleration are shown. The first brake application test results are compared to the FEM numerical predictions with MSC Visual Nastran on the entire disk. These conform well to the experimental data, although numerical thermal field is slightly higher than the experimental one. Besides, ventilated disk brake rotor shows great dimensional stability and the ability to dissipate a great amount of thermal flow.

Abstract The study aims at analyzing the performance of Phase Change Materials (PCMs) in residential housing for different climates. This paper presents the results of an experiment performed in the Concordia University Solar Simulator and Environmental Chamber research facility (SSEC, Montreal, Canada). PCM boards were embedded on the back wall of a test hut placedin the climatic chamber. Several experiments were performed to explore the potential for verification of the proposed analysis and to produce enough data to perform model calibrations. Low-cost underwater navigation systems by multi-pressure measurements and AHRS data

This paper deals with accurate navigation for underwater remotely operated vehicles. A feasibility study for a multi-pressure device to be mounted on an ROV is presented. The device can provide accurate estimates of a ROV orientation and angular speed. It is based on the well-known total pressure principle, also used in a Pitot tube, and allows reconstruction of static and dynamic pressures, which in turn provide good estimates of the ROV's orientation and rotational speed, respectively. An appealing feature of the proposed device is its ability to provide accurate estimates even for low-speed movements.

The rationale behind most car-following (CF) models is the possibility to appraise and formalize how drivers naturally follow each other. Characterizing and parametrizing Normative Driving Behavior (NDB) became major goals, especially during the last 25 years. Most CF models assumed driver propensity for constant, safe distance is axiomatic. This paper challenges the idea of safety distance as the main parameter defining a unique (or natural) NDB. Friction Stir Welding of AA6082-T6 T-joints: Process Engineering and Performance Measurement

In the paper the authors present the results of a wide range of experiments on T-parts. First, friction stir welding process engineering has been developed with the aim of determining the specific process parameters that make up the soundness of the obtained T-parts. Then the performance of the obtained T-joints has been compared with T-joints obtained by metal inert gas welding and extruded T-parts. The parts have been tested utilizing a customized bending test with the aim of highlighting their behaviour both in elastic and plastic fields.

This paper describes an experimental platform to emulate the static and dynamic behavior of real Wind Energy Conversion Systems (WECS). The Wind Turbine Emulator (WTE) consists of two coupled 1.5 kW squirrel-cage induction machines. The WTE calculations are performed on a PC and a DSP, both connected via USB. The total torque applied to the WTE motor is the difference of the scaled wind mechanical torque calculated on the PC, and the turbine inertia torque calculated on the DSP. The Use of Accelerometers and Gyroscopes to Estimate Hip and Knee Angles on Gait Analysis

In this paper the performance of a sensor system, which has been developed to estimate hip and knee angles and the beginning of the gait phase, have been investigated. The sensor system consists of accelerometers and gyroscopes. A new algorithm was developed in order to avoid the error accumulation due to the gyroscopes drift and vibrations due to the ground contact at the beginning of the stance phase. The proposed algorithm have been tested and compared to some existing algorithms on over-ground walking trials with a commercial device for assisted gait. The results have shown the good accuracy of the angles estimation, also in high angle rate movement.
