The Catalan LIJ (Children's and Young Adult Literature) is recovered in the sixties after the post-war period. One of the factors that assisted this recovery was the creation in 1963 of the publishing house, La Galera, and the Premi Folch i Torres award held for children's …
Urban environment and cognitive and motor function in children from four European birth cohorts
2021
[EN]Background: The urban environment may influence neurodevelopment from conception onwards, but there is no evaluation of the impact of multiple groups of exposures simultaneously. We investigated the association between early-life urban environment and cognitive and motor function in children. Methods: We used data from 5403 mother-child pairs from four population-based birth-cohorts (UK, France, Spain, and Greece). We estimated thirteen urban home exposures during pregnancy and childhood, including: built environment, natural spaces, and air pollution. Verbal, non-verbal, gross motor, and fine motor functions were assessed using validated tests at five years old. We ran adjusted multi-e…

The role of sensory pleasure in driving eating behaviour in infants and children
2015
Revue; Eating is essential for survival, and we are born well equipped to ensure proper food ingestion. However, learning to eat has to occur quickly, because the mode of feeding evolves dramatically during the first years of life, from tube feeding to family foods, through milk and complementary feeding. Moreover, food likes and dislikes are not inborn, except the enjoyment of the sweet taste: food preferences are learned, essentially during the first years of life. Eating habits established during early years will contribute to the development of subsequent eating habits. For this reason, it is fundamental to understand the most important early periods for the development of eating habits…

Discrimination des expressions faciales et environnement olfactif - Corrélats cérébraux en électroencéphalographie (EEG) chez l'adulte et le très jeu…
2019
This thesis examines the mechanisms subtending the perception of emotional facial expressions and their early development using a Fast Periodic Visual Presentation (FPVS) approach coupled with electroencephalography (EEG). More specifically, we tried to characterize brain responses reflecting facial expression discrimination and to determine whether hedonic odor contexts influence these responses in adults (studies 1 and 2), and in infants at different developmental stages (studies 3 and 4). We showed specific responses to the discrimination of every facial expression in the adult brain, indicating rapid and automatic categorization of basic facial expressions (study 1). In addition, we rev…
