EUROASPIRE IV: A European Society of Cardiology survey on the lifestyle, risk factor and therapeutic management of coronary patients from 24 European…
2016
AIMS: To determine whether the Joint European Societies guidelines on cardiovascular prevention are being followed in everyday clinical practice of secondary prevention and to describe the lifestyle, risk factor and therapeutic management of coronary patients across Europe. METHODS AND RESULTS: EUROASPIRE IV was a cross-sectional study undertaken at 78 centres from 24 European countries. Patients <80 years with coronary disease who had coronary artery bypass graft, percutaneous coronary intervention or an acute coronary syndrome were identified from hospital records and interviewed and examined ≥ 6 months later. A total of 16,426 medical records were reviewed and 7998 patients (24.4% female…
The association of depression and all-cause and cause-specific mortality: An umbrella review of systematic reviews and meta-analyses
2018
Background Depression is a prevalent and disabling mental disorder that frequently co-occurs with a wide range of chronic conditions. Evidence has suggested that depression could be associated with excess all-cause mortality across different settings and populations, although the causality of these associations remains unclear. Methods We conducted an umbrella review of systematic reviews and meta-analyses of observational studies. PubMed, PsycINFO, and Embase electronic databases were searched through January 20, 2018. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses that investigated associations of depression and all-cause and cause-specific mortality were selected for the review. The evidence was g…
Intravenous BQ-123 and phosphoramidon reduce ventricular ectopic beats and myocardial infarct size in dogs submitted to coronary occlusion and reperf…
2001
Abstract The aim of this work was to investigate the influence of endothelin on myocardial ischemia and reperfusion in anaesthetized dogs. Animals were submitted to left thoracotomy and 120 min of left anterior descending coronary occlusion, followed by 180 min of reperfusion. Arterial blood pressure and electrocardiogram (ECG) were recorded in order to analyze heart rate (HR)–pressure product and production of ectopic beats. Infarcted areas were identified by a macroscopic staining method and infarct size was expressed as percentage of risk zone. To inhibit the effects of endothelin in a group of animals, we administered intravenously an endothelin synthesis inhibitor (phosphoramidon) and …
Magnetic Resonance MicroImaging of a Swine Infarcted Heart: Performing Cardiac Virtual Histologies
2015
The aim of this study is to develop a computer-aided intuitive software tool based on MATLAB to reproduce the functions of a virtual histology over Magnetic Resonance (MR) microimages of small samples of swine's infarcted hearts. The basic characterization consists of selecting regions of interest (ROIs) of that MR microimage and extracting the most important information of these regions. The software tool will implement intuitive and sophisticated tools that allow the user to define ROIs on the different types of images provided by the MR scanner. The final purpose of this tool will be to analyze the acquired data in order to characterize some aspects of the later possible events after a m…

Silent and symptomatic atrial fibrillation, during the acute phase of myocardial infarction : determinants and role of arginine methylated and oxidati…
2015
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a frequent complication of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) with a poorer prognosis. Silent atrial fibrillation has been suggested to be frequent after AMI. However, most part of the studies has targeted only paroxysmal or persistent AF. Thus, Reduced Nitric Oxide availability and endothelial dysfunction has been recently recognized as a possible contributor to altered prognosis in AF. Asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) can inhibit nitric oxide synthase and leads to endothelial dysfunction, inflammation and oxidative stress in multiple cardiovascular diseases. However, any study has addressed the relationship between ADMA levels and the occurrence of AF in AMI.W…

Objective: Growth differentiation factor-8 (GDF8), also known as myostatin, is a member of the transforming growth factor-β superfamily that inhibits skeletal muscle growth. We aimed to investigate the association between GDF8 and peak troponin I levels after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Methods: All consecutive patients admitted from June 2016 to February 2018 for type 1 AMI in the Coronary Care Unit of University Hospital of Dijon Bourgogne (France) were included in our prospective study. Blood samples were harvested on admission, and serum levels of GDF8 were measured using a commercially available enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kit. Results: Among the 296 patients with type 1 A…

Atherogenic Ratios in Patients with Recurrent Acute Coronary Syndrome and Receiving Statin Therapy: Clinical Usefullness as Cardiovascular Predictors
2015
Patients who have already suffered a vascular event require more and better control of cardiovascular risk factors. Different atherogenic indexes such as TC/HDLc, LDLc/HDLc, apoB/apoA-I, LDLc/apoB and non-HDLc/HDLc have been used to follow-up the patients because of their predictive capacity of the lipid profile. The aim of this study was to evaluate atherogenic ratios as a marker of the lipid residual risk in high-risk patients receiving statin therapy and to know the changes produced by previous lipid-lowering drugs treatment for a previous coronary event. The study including patients admitted to coronary care units of six Spanish tertiary hospitals for Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS). A to…
Circulating miRNA Fingerprint and Endothelial Function in Myocardial Infarction: Comparison at Acute Event and One-Year Follow-Up.
2022
MicroRNAs (miRNA) are major regulators of intercellular communication and key players in the pathophysiology of cardiovascular disease. This study aimed to determine the miRNA fingerprint in a cohort of 53 patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) with non-ST-segment elevation (NSTEMI) relative to miRNA expression in healthy controls (n = 51). miRNA expression was initially profiled by miRNA array in the serum of patients undergoing cardiac catheterization during NSTEMI (n = 8) and 1 year past the event (follow-up, n = 8) and validated in the entire cohort. In total, 58 miRNAs were differentially expressed during AMI (p < 0.05), while 36 were modified at follow-up (Fisher’s exact t…
