Stochastic analysis of dynamical systems with delayed control forces

2006

Abstract Reduction of structural vibration in actively controlled dynamical system is usually performed by means of convenient control forces dependent of the dynamic response. In this paper the existent studies will be extended to dynamical systems subjected to non-normal delta-correlated random process with delayed control forces. Taylor series expansion of the control forces has been introduced and the statistics of the dynamical response have been obtained by means of the extended Ito differential rule. Numerical application provided shows the capabilities of the proposed method to analyze stochastic dynamic systems with delayed actions under delta-correlated process contrasting statist…

On coincidence of feedback and global Stackelberg equilibria in a class of differential games

2021

This paper shows for a class of differential games that the global Stackelberg equilibrium (GSE) coincides with the feedback Stackelberg equilibrium (FSE), although the GSE assumes that the leader/regulator an- nounces at the initial time the regulatory instrument rule she will follow for the rest of the game, while in the FSE, the regulator at any time chooses the optimal level of the regulatory instrument rate. This coincidence is based on the fact that the FSE is calculated using dynamic programming what implies that although the regulator chooses the regulatory instrument rate level that maximizes social welfare, the first-order condition for the maximization of the right-hand side of t…

On the advantages of combining differential algorithms and log-polar vision for detection of self-motion from a mobile robot

2001

Abstract This paper describes the design and implementation on programmable hardware (FPGAs) of an algorithm for the detection of self-mobile objects as seen from a mobile robot. In this context, ‘self-mobile’ refers to those objects that change in the image plane due to their own movement, and not to the movement of the camera on board of the mobile robot. The method consists on adapting the original algorithm from Chen and Nandhakumar [A simple scheme for motion boundary detection, in: Proceedings of the IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man and Cybernetics, 1994] by using foveal images obtained with a special camera whose optical axis points towards the direction of advance. It i…

Strict quasi-concavity and the differential barrier property of gauges in linear programming

2014

Concave gauge functions were introduced to give an analytical representation of cones. In particular, they give a simple and a practical representation of the positive orthant. There is a wide choice of concave gauge functions with interesting properties, representing the same cone. Besides the fact that a concave gauge cannot be identically zero on a cone(), it may be continuous, differentiable and even on its interior. The purpose of the present paper is to present another approach to penalizing the positivity constraints of a linear programme using an arbitrary strictly quasi-concave gauge representation. Throughout the paper, we generalize the concept of the central path and the analyti…

The tensor of interaction of a two-level system with an arbitrary strain field

2007

The interaction between two-level systems (TLS) and strain fields in a solid is contained in the diagonal matrix element of the interaction hamiltonian, $\delta$, which, in general, has the expression $\delta=2[\gamma]:[S]$, with the tensor $[\gamma]$ describing the TLS ``deformability'' and $[S]$ being the symmetric strain tensor. We construct $[\gamma]$ on very general grounds, by associating to the TLS two objects: a direction, $\hat\bt$, and a forth rank tensor of coupling constants, $[[R]]$. Based on the method of construction and on the invariance of the expression of $\delta$ with respect to the symmetry transformation of the solid, we conclude that $[[R]]$ has the same structure as …

Statistical Properties of Generalized Strain Criterion for Multiaxial Random Fatigue

1989

ABSTRACT Statistical properties of generalized criterion of the maximum shear and normal strains on the fracture plane have been presented, Functions of probability distribution and spectral density of the equivalent strain have been analysed on the assumption that a random tensor of strain state is a six-dimensional stationary and ergodic Gaussian process. The expected value and variance of the equivalent strain have been determined as well. From spectral analysis a new limitation has been derived for extension of some multiaxial cyclic fatigue criteria to random loadings. It is connected with the fact that in some cases the frequency band of the equivalent strain is greater than that for …

Bounding principles for elastic-plastic-creeping solids loaded below and above the shakedown limit

1982

Solids of elastic-perfectly plastic creeping material subjected to variable loads are considered within the infinitesimal displacement framework and a bounding principle is presented which holds below and above the shakedown limit. Through the choice of some free parameters, this principle generates a number of deformation bounds with practical meanings, some of wich coincide with known results for creeping and noncreeping material, while others constitute new results or generalizations of known results. The topic will be further studied in a subsequent paper [35].

Approximating the solutions of differential inclusions driven by measures

2019

The matter of approximating the solutions of a differential problem driven by a rough measure by solutions of similar problems driven by “smoother” measures is considered under very general assumptions on the multifunction on the right-hand side. The key tool in our investigation is the notion of uniformly bounded $$\varepsilon $$-variations, which mixes the supremum norm with the uniformly bounded variation condition. Several examples to motivate the generality of our outcomes are included.

Low-pressure ferroelastic phase transition in rutile-type AX2 minerals: cassiterite (SnO2), pyrolusite (MnO2) and sellaite (MgF2)

2019

The structural behaviour of cassiterite (SnO2), pyrolusite (MnO2) and sellaite (MgF2), i.e. AX2-minerals, has been investigated at room temperature by in situ high-pressure single-crystal diffraction, up to 14 GPa, using a diamond anvil cell. Such minerals undergo a ferroelastic phase transition, from rutile-like structure (SG: P42/mnm) to CaCl2-like structure (SG: Pnnm), at ≈ 10.25, 4.05 and 4.80 GPa, respectively. The structural evolution under pressure has been described by the trends of some structure parameters that are other than zero in the region of the low-symmetry phase’s stability. In particular, three tilting-angles (ω, ω′, ABS) and the metric distortion of the cation-centred oc…

New Results on Identifiability of Nonlinear Systems

2004

Abstract In this paper, we recall definition of identifiability of nonlinear systems. We prove equivalence between identifiability and smooth identifiability. This new result justifies our definition of identifiability. In a previous paper (Busvelle and Gauthier, 2003), we have established that • If the number of observations is three or more, then, systems are generically identifiable. • If the number of observations is 1 or 2, then the situation is reversed. Identifiability is not at all generic. Also, we have completely classified infinitesimally identifiable systems in the second case, and in particular, we gave normal forms for identifiable systems. Here, we will give similar results i…
