Active Learning System in the Context of the Social Semantic Web

In this paper we present the concept and the implementation of an Active Semantic Learning System that takes advantage of the Social Semantic Web in order to deliver an efficient and personalized learning experience to the learner. Active participation of the learner is encouraged through the social learning approach and through techniques that adapt the learning content to learners' needs and preferences. Distributed image retrieval on DAISY

The paper describes an application of image retrieval based on DAISY architecture (distributed architecture for intelligent system). The creation of pictorial indexes may require a number of hours depending on the size of the pictorial data base. The problem can become more complex in the case of distributed database systems. Certain advantages of Scopus compare with Web of Science in a bibliometric analysis related to smoking

El objetivo de este trabajo es comparar entre Web of Science (WoS) y Scopus los indicadores bibliométricos básicos del área de tabaquismo de autores españoles en el período 2000-2009. Métodos: La búsqueda se realizó en el SCI-Expanded y Scopus (“smok*” OR “tobac*”). Resultados: La media total anual del nº de documentos fue de 41 ± 12 para WoS vs 60 ± 16 en Scopus (p = 0,007). Aumento progresivo del índice de colaboración. La media anual del índice de colaboración fue de 9,41 ± 2,73 en WoS vs 7,12 ± 1,52 en Scopus (p = 0,029).
