Prepublicaciones: distribucion centralizada vs. descentralizada.
2000
Prepublications are accounts of research results that are distributed prior to formal publication in scientific journals. They are the form of scholarly communication that has taken more advantage of the advances in telecommunication and information technologies. Their electronic distribution has taken a different form within the disciplines. In this paper we compare the decentralized model of Economies with the centralized model of Physics.<br><br>Las Prepublicaciones, borradores de trabajos distribuídos antes de su publicacion formal en revistas, han sido el proceso de comunicación científica que más se ha beneficiado de los avances en telecomunicaciones. Su distribución elect…
DAE-GP
2020
Estimation of distribution genetic programming (EDA-GP) algorithms are metaheuristics where sampling new solutions from a learned probabilistic model replaces the standard mutation and recombination operators of genetic programming (GP). This paper presents DAE-GP, a new EDA-GP which uses denoising autoencoder long short-term memory networks (DAE-LSTMs) as probabilistic model. DAE-LSTMs are artificial neural networks that first learn the properties of a parent population by mapping promising candidate solutions to a latent space and reconstructing the candidate solutions from the latent space. The trained model is then used to sample new offspring solutions. We show on a generalization of t…
Towards a European public sphere? A Comparative Study of the Facebook Activities of Danish and Spanish Members of the European Parliament
2019
This comparative study examines the everyday Facebook activities of all Danish and Spanish members of the European Parliament (MEPs), and the extent to which there is a real political conversation between citizens and European representatives. Through content analysis, it analyzes the Facebook practices of a significantly under-studied population (MEPs) during a non-campaign period (January 15 to February 15, 2017) while most of recent research has overwhelmingly focused on campaign periods. The results show that both Danish and Spanish MEPs are generously present and active on Facebook, but that they are less popular than their national counterparts. The study shows that Danish MEPs use Fa…
An adaption mechanism for the error threshold of XCSF
2020
Learning Classifier System (LCS) is a class of rule-based learning algorithms, which combine reinforcement learning (RL) and genetic algorithm (GA) techniques to evolve a population of classifiers. The most prominent example is XCS, for which many variants have been proposed in the past, including XCSF for function approximation. Although XCSF is a promising candidate for supporting autonomy in computing systems, it still must undergo parameter optimization prior to deployment. However, in case the later deployment environment is unknown, a-priori parameter optimization is not possible, raising the need for XCSF to automatically determine suitable parameter values at run-time. One of the mo…
I suffer from a serious rare disease : a challenge to sing and choreograph on TikTok
2021
An analysis of the bias of variation operators of estimation of distribution programming
2018
Estimation of distribution programming (EDP) replaces standard GP variation operators with sampling from a learned probability model. To ensure a minimum amount of variation in a population, EDP adds random noise to the probabilities of random variables. This paper studies the bias of EDP's variation operator by performing random walks. The results indicate that the complexity of the EDP model is high since the model is overfitting the parent solutions when no additional noise is being used. Adding only a low amount of noise leads to a strong bias towards small trees. The bias gets stronger with an increased amount of noise. Our findings do not support the hypothesis that sampling drift is …
Algorithms and Logic as Programming Primers
2019
To adapt all-immersive digitalization, the Finnish National Curriculum 2014 (FNC-2014) ‘digi-jumps’ by integrating programming into elementary education. However, applying the change to mathematics teachers’ everyday praxis is hindered by a too high-level specification. To elaborate FNC-2014 into more concrete learning targets, we review the computer science syllabi of countries that are well ahead, as well as the education recommendations set by computer science organizations, such as ACM and IEEE. The whole mathematics syllabus should be critically viewed in the light of these recommendations and feedback collected from software professionals and educators. The feedback reveals an imbalan…

Problématiser la démocratie environnementale
2015
Problematizing the environmental democracy: Can online eco-citizen participation rescue the institutional participation? The rise of the digital society came with a series of hopes picturing a liberating technology. At the same time, political institutions call for a better integration of citizens in the public affairs’ government. Knowing that this injunction to participation does not generate a massive mobilization, to what extent can online discussion platforms help to give new life to citizen participation? This issue will be brought up through an analysis of Community Management in a socio-technical perspective, as a part of our PhD Research Program.
Mapping a-priori defined plant associations using remotely sensed vegetation characteristics
2014
Abstract Incorporation of a priori defined plant associations into remote sensing products is a major challenge that has only recently been confronted by the remote sensing community. We present an approach to map the spatial distribution of such associations by using plant indicator values (IVs) for salinity, moisture and nutrients as an intermediate between spectral reflectance and association occurrences. For a 12 km 2 study site in the Netherlands, the relations between observed IVs at local vegetation plots and visible and near-infrared (VNIR) and short-wave infrared (SWIR) airborne reflectance data were modelled using Gaussian Process Regression (GPR) (R 2 0.73, 0.64 and 0.76 for sali…
