Topological ranks reveal functional knowledge encoded in biological networks: a comparative analysis
2022
Abstract Motivation Biological networks topology yields important insights into biological function, occurrence of diseases and drug design. In the last few years, different types of topological measures have been introduced and applied to infer the biological relevance of network components/interactions, according to their position within the network structure. Although comparisons of such measures have been previously proposed, to what extent the topology per se may lead to the extraction of novel biological knowledge has never been critically examined nor formalized in the literature. Results We present a comparative analysis of nine outstanding topological measures, based on compact vie…
A System-based View of Blockchain Governance
2023
Abstract CONTEXT Governance is crucial in achieving the success and sustainability of blockchain systems. However, blockchain governance is multi-faceted, complex, dynamic, and challenging due to its decentralized nature and automatically enforced rules and mechanisms. OBJECTIVES This study aims to advance the theory of blockchain governance and support practitioners to deepen the researchers’ and practitioners’ understanding of blockchain governance. METHODS The study is a systematic literature review of 75 articles that applies systems theory to conceptualize blockchain governance as a system and parsimoniously organize its interrelated elements into a conceptual model. RESULTS The paper …
Incentive Mechanism for Edge-Computing-Based Blockchain
2020
Blockchain has been gradually applied to different Internet of Things (IoT) platforms. As the efficiency of the blockchain mainly depends on the network computing capability, how to make sure the acquisition of the computational resources and participation of the devices would be the driving force. In this work, we focus on investigating incentive mechanism for rational miners to purchase the computational resources. A edge computing-based blockchain network is considered, where the edge service provider (ESP) can provide computational resources for the miners. Accordingly, we formulate a two-stage Stackelberg game between the miners and ESP. The aim is to investigate Stackelberg equilibriu…
Convergence Analysis of Distributed Set-Valued Information Systems
2016
This paper focuses on the convergence of information in distributed systems of agents communicating over a network. The information on which the convergence is sought is not rep- resented by real numbers, as often in the literature, rather by sets. The dynamics of the evolution of information across the net- work is accordingly described by set-valued iterative maps. While the study of convergence of set-valued iterative maps is highly complex in general, this paper focuses on Boolean maps, which are comprised of arbitrary combinations of unions, intersections, and complements of sets. For these important class of systems, we provide tools to study both global and local convergence. A distr…
Aspetti valutativi nella costruzione del sistema informativo per la gestione ambientale dell'azienda
2013
This paper deals with the construction of an environmental management oriented corporate information system. A company point of view is adopted and a managerial approach is integrated with an evaluative approach. The work provides a critical reflection on the nature of corporate environmental responsibility and on the contribution of evaluation discipline for environment oriented improving of the traditional economic and financial corporate information system. Corporate management recognizes the principle that governs the activity of a company in the creation of economic value. In production processes, the neg-entropic aspects − relating to produced goods and other tangible and intangible b…
Engagement in entrepreneurship after business failure. Do formal institutions and culture matter?
2023
AbstractDespite the extensive literature on the relationship between entrepreneurship and institutions, there is limited knowledge of the relationship between institutions and engagement after failure. This study compares the entrepreneurial engagement of entrepreneurs who have recently experienced failure and individuals without entrepreneurial experience, emphasizing the interaction of government policies and programmes (formal institutions) and individualistic/collectivist cultures (informal institutions) with business failure and its impact on entrepreneurial engagement. We test our hypotheses using multilevel analysis on a large cross-sectional sample that combines individual-level dat…
Exploring the elements for value co-creation in consumer information systems in B2B context : a case study on the business event industry
2014
Tämä tutkielma tarkastelee arvon yhteisluontia verkkopalvelussa B2B-kontekstissa käyttäen tutkimuksen toimialana kaupallisia seminaareja ja koulutuksia. Viitekehyksenä tutkimuksessa käytetään arvon yhteisluonnin mallia kuluttajatietojärjestelmissä (CIS), jolla nähdään ammatillisten seminaarien ja koulutusten järjestäjien ja osallistujien (n=22) arvoja ja motivaatioita tapahtumiin osallistumiseen sekä tutkitaan myös mitkä ominaisuudet koetaan tarpeelliseksi toimialan tapahtumien promootioon perustuvaan verkkopalveluun. Tutkimuksen tavoitteena on tunnistaa arvon yhteisluonnin elementit sekä mahdollisia eroavaisuuksia verkkopalvelun B2B-käyttäjän käyttötarpeissa sekä järjestelmän käyttökokemuk…
Social media overload, exhaustion, and use discontinuance : Examining the effects of information overload, system feature overload, and social overlo…
2020
While users’ discontinuance of use has posed a challenge for social media in recent years, there is a paucity of knowledge on the relationships between different dimensions of overload and how overload adversely affects users’ social media discontinuance behaviors. To address this knowledge gap, this study employed the stressor–strain–outcome (SSO) framework to explain social media discontinuance behaviors from an overload perspective. It also conceptualized social media overload as a multidimensional construct consisting of system feature overload, information overload, and social overload. The proposed research model was empirically validated via 412 valid questionnaire responses collecte…
Mutual informing between IS Academia and Practice: Insights from KIWISR-5
2011
Publisher's version of an article published in the journal: Communications of the Association for Information Systems. Also available from the publisher at: http://aisel.aisnet.org/cais/vol29/iss1/7 The relationship between Information Systems (IS) scholars and IS practitioners has been debated since the birth of the IS discipline. How are academics interacting with practice, and how should we? In this article we propose that academia-practice collaboration, namely “mutual informing,” is an existential aspect of the Information Systems field. This article is based on presentations, discussions, group work, and a debate that took place during the Fifth Kristiansand International Workshop on …
