A Conceptual Model of ICT-Supported Unified Process of International Outsourcing of Software Production

2006

This is an ongoing research in international outsourcing software production. This research examines how Software production through the ICTsupported unified process of international outsourcing could be executed and managed effectively. To address this research question, the results of an in-depth literature review in the areas of outsourcing, international outsourcing, information technology, and international software production is presented. This study proposes the information communication technologies? (ICT) - supported unified process model of international outsourcing of software production (SUPMIOSP). ICT-SUPMIOSP provides a detailed guideline on how to manage the entire process of…

Risk factors in the collaborative development of management information systems for Nigerian universities

2006

The authors discuss the risk factors associated with the collaborative development of information systems (IS) within the university environment in Nigeria. They use observations and reviews of relevant reports of the project as well as a variation of the Delphi Study in presenting their findings. The study shows that risks were associated with funding, top administrators' commitment, the number of participating universities, the role of the donor, as well as other factors. In addition, the challenges posed by each risk factor and the lessons learned are presented. Primarily, the study reports the scenario of IS development by universities in a developing economy in which the development pr…

Transformational capabilities of ICT: A technology management perspective in construction

2008

(1) The construction industry typically lags behind in adopting technology. (2) Given the fact that the process of construction is critically dependent on relevant, accurate and timely information, ICT can play a very important role in the industry. (3) The industry is actually missing out on the crucial advantages offered by ICT. ICT is used by and large as mere enhancement tools, not as agents that can transform and thus revolutionize the process of construction. (4) A new approach based on the technology management principles will enable researchers to formulate new strategic directions. (5) This paper will explore successful technology management strategies in the context of ICT impleme…

Issues of adopting benefits management practices of IT investments in municipalities: A Delphi study in Norway

2007

Author's version of a chapter in Proceedings of the 40th Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences. Also available from the publisher at http://dx.doi.org/10.1109/HICSS.2007.303 The concept of benefits management highlights explicit practices to facilitate benefits realization from information technology (IT) investments, in addition to plain project management focusing on information systems (IS) deliverables as such. This article presents preliminary results from a Delphi study of identifying critical issues to facilitate adoption of benefits management practices in Norwegian municipalities. Three expert panels were established, representing three stakeholder groups within…

Semantic infrastructure system with feedback: Application on traffic

2012

The Semantic Web is a powerful approach used by some intelligent applications to manage complex information in many different fields. Nevertheless, there are not standard tools to design and built the applications, therefore each problem need to be analysed separately in order to meet the requirements. In this paper is presented an overview of a system based on a semantic approach with the goal of managing real-time information. The paper studies the application of this system on ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) as an example of a typical real-time information system. The system gathers real information from the users and the environment, making intelligent decisions and delivering real-…

Mobile Communities in Developing Countries

2010

The number of mobile devices has exceeded four billions and is still growing. Especially in developing countries mobile devices are often the only access to Internet and digital services. In the most developed countries laptops, Wi-Fi and faster and faster wireless telecom networks have for long time made mobile access to various digital services possible while on the move. Still, large and instant mobile communities can only rely on more portable devices, such as mobile phones. In this paper we will analyze various mobile communities and the support they are offered by the social media sites. We will discuss the phenomena encountered in developing countries, like how the mobile technology …

Correction to: Engagement in entrepreneurship after business failure. Do formal institutions and culture matter?

2023

Despite the extensive literature on the relationship between entrepreneurship and institutions, there is limited knowledge of the relationship between institutions and engagement after failure. This study compares the entrepreneurial engagement of entrepreneurs who have recently experienced failure and individuals without entrepreneurial experience, emphasizing the interaction of government policies and programmes (formal institutions) and individualistic/collectivist cultures (informal institutions) with business failure and its impact on entrepreneurial engagement. We test our hypotheses using multilevel analysis on a large cross-sectional sample that combines individual-level data from t…

Intellectual engagements of accounting academics: The ‘forecasted losses' intervention

2022

This paper explores the social and political potential of accounting scholarship, presenting and discussing an intellectual intervention challenging a legislative reform that significantly affected Spanish industrial relations. In this reform, an accounting artifact (forecasted losses) played an unexpected role and was misrepresented, prompting a sizeable number of scholars to sign two manifestos in 2010 and 2012 against the use of forecasted losses made by the new legislation. As promoters of this manifesto, we perform in this paper a collaborative autoethnography to reflect on the context, events, reactions, and significance of this intervention for both the academic and the industrial re…

A contribution to the linear programming approach to joint cost allocation: Methodology and application

2009

Abstract The linear programming (LP) approach has been commonly proposed for joint cost allocation purposes. Within a LP framework, the allocation rules are based on a marginal analysis. Unfortunately, the additivity property which is required to completely allocate joint costs fails in presence of capacity, institutional or environmental constraints. In this paper, we first illustrate that the non allocated part can be interpreted as a type of producer’s surplus. Then, by using the information contained in the Simplex tableau we propose an original two-stage methodology based on the marginal costs and the production elasticity of input factors to achieve an additive cost allocation pattern…

Catastrophic risks and the pricing of catastrophe equity put options

2021

In this paper, after a review of the most common financial strategies and products that insurance companies use to hedge catastrophic risks, we study an option pricing model based on processes with jumps where the catastrophic event is captured by a compound Poisson process with negative jumps. Given the importance that catastrophe equity put options (CatEPuts) have in this context, we introduce a pricing approach that provides not only a theoretical contribution whose applicability remains confined to purely numerical examples and experiments, but which can be implemented starting from real data and applied to the evaluation of real CatEPuts. We propose a calibration framework based on his…
