Reverse-Safe Text Indexing

We introduce the notion of reverse-safe data structures. These are data structures that prevent the reconstruction of the data they encode (i.e., they cannot be easily reversed). A data structure D is called z - reverse-safe when there exist at least z datasets with the same set of answers as the ones stored by D . The main challenge is to ensure that D stores as many answers to useful queries as possible, is constructed efficiently, and has size close to the size of the original dataset it encodes. Increasing the Coverage of Medicinal Chemistry-Relevant Space in Commercial Fragments Screening

Analyzing the chemical space coverage in commercial fragment screening collections revealed the overlap between bioactive medicinal chemistry substructures and rule-of-three compliant fragments is only ∼25%. We recommend including these fragments in fragment screening libraries to maximize confidence in discovering hit matter within known bioactive chemical space, while incorporation of nonoverlapping substructures could offer novel hits in screening libraries. Using principal component analysis, polar and three-dimensional substructures display a higher-than-average enrichment of bioactive compounds, indicating increasing representation of these substructures may be beneficial in fragment …

Extracting Formal Models from Normative Texts

Normative texts are documents based on the deontic notions of obligation, permission, and prohibition. Our goal is model such texts using the C-O Diagram formalism, making them amenable to formal analysis, in particular verifying that a text satisfies properties concerning causality of actions and timing constraints. We present an experimental, semi-automatic aid to bridge the gap between a normative text and its formal representation. Our approach uses dependency trees combined with our own rules and heuristics for extracting the relevant components. The resulting tabular data can then be converted into a C-O Diagram.

This article presents a descriptive analysis of works published in Spanish journals and of the papers of conferences held in Spain in the field of information needs and uses in the period 1990–2004 in order to determine if the change in approach described by Dervin and Nilan, among others, also occurred outside the English speaking world.
