Security Challenges of IoT-Based Smart Home Appliances

2018

The Internet of Things, IoT, and the related security challenges are reaching homes in the form of smart appliances. If the appliances are compromised, they can be used in botnet attacks against Internet services and potentially cause harm to people and property through the local network, for example, by heating up too much or allowing unauthorized access. The aim of this study was to see how secure these devices are against remote and network attacks. Several devices were tested with attacks coming from the same Wi-Fi network to gain various levels of control of the devices. Their security against a Man-in-the-Middle attack was also studied to see differences in the susceptibility to conne…

A Structural $\mathcal{ SHOIN(D)}$ Ontology Model for Change Modelling

2013

This paper presents a complete structural ontology model suited for change modelling on \(\mathcal{ SHOIN(D)}\) ontologies. The application of this model is illustrated along the paper through the description of an ontology example inspired by the UOBM ontology benchmark and its evolution.

Towards Advanced Visualisation Techniques in Case

1999

The complexity of information systems has resulted in more sophisticated CASE tools which integrate multifaceted design information using metamodeling and hypertext technologies. A designer can use this vast amount of tightly coupled information efficiently only if it is presented based on his needs and cognitive capabilities. In this paper we discuss how representations in CASE can be improved using advanced visualisation techniques.

PTNet: A parameterizable data center network

2016

This paper presents PTNet, a new data center topology that is specifically designed to offer a high and parameterized scalability with just one layer architecture. Furthermore, despite its high scalability, PTNet grants a reduced latency and a high performance in terms of capacity and fault tolerance. Consequently, compared to widely known data center networks, our new topology shows better capacity, robustness, cost-effectiveness and less power consumption. Conducted experiments and theoretical analyses illustrate the performance of the novel system. 2016 IEEE. Scopus

Zur Identifikation von Strukturanalogien in Datenmodellen

2005

On the one hand, data models decrease the complexity of information system development. On the other hand, data models causes additional complexity. Recently structural analogies are discussed as instruments reducing the complexity of data models. This piece of research presents a procedure to identify structural analogies in data models and demonstrates its performance by analyzing Scheer’s reference model for industrial enterprises (Y-CIM-model). The proposed procedure is based on formalizing data models within set theory and uses a quantitative similarity measure. The obtained results show both identical and very similar information structures within the Y-CIM-model. Furthermore, ways of…

A Windowing strategy for Distributed Data Mining optimized through GPUs

2017

Abstract This paper introduces an optimized Windowing based strategy for inducing decision trees in Distributed Data Mining scenarios. Windowing consists in selecting a sample of the available training examples (the window) to induce a decision tree with an usual algorithm, e.g., J48; finding instances not covered by this tree (counter examples) in the remaining training examples, adding them to the window to induce a new tree; and repeating until a termination criterion is met. In this way, the number of training examples required to induce the tree is reduced considerably, while maintaining the expected accuracy levels; which is paid in terms of time performance. Our proposed enhancements…

A new autonomous data transmission reduction method for wireless sensors networks

2018

International audience; The inherent limitation in energy resources and computational power for sensor nodes in a Wireless Sensor Network, poses the challenge of extending the lifetime of these networks. Since radio communication is the dominant energy consuming activity, most presented approaches focused on reducing the number of data transmitted to the central workstation. This can be achieved by deploying both on the workstation and the sensor node a synchronized prediction model capable of forecasting future values. Thus, enabling the sensor node to transmit only the values that surpasses a predefined error threshold. This mechanism offers a decrease in the cost of transmission energy f…
