The status of the species Beijerinckia fluminensis Dobereiner and Ruschel 1958. Request for an Opinion.
2011
In a previous article [Oggerin M., Arahal, D. R., Rubio, V. & Marin, I. (2009). Int J Syst Evol Microbiol 59, 2323–2328], it has been shown that strain Beijerinckia fluminensis UQM 1685T and its derived equivalent B. fluminensis CIP 106281T do not conform to the description of the type strain of Beijerinckia fluminensis Döbereiner and Ruschel 1958. Indeed, both strains were identified as members of the species Rhizobium radiobacter and exhibited marked phenotypic and genotypic differences with members of the genus Beijerinckia. It was concluded that both strains, and any other equivalents derived from them, do not descend from the nomenclatural type. Since then, our attempts to find old…
Freshwater organisms that build stromatolites: a synopsis of biocrystallization by prokaryotic and eukaryotic algae
1998
In freshwater environments such as river and stream bottoms, rocks and submerged vegetation are covered with a biological felt (also called a periphyton, microbial mat, biofilm, etc.) that is susceptible to calcification. Compilation of an extensive bibliography and our own observations have allowed the identification of 44 species of Coccogonophyceae, 122 Hormogonophyceae, 2 Chrysophyceae, 35 Chlorophyceae, 3 Xanthophyceae, 2 diatoms, and 3 Rhodophyceae that grow on calcareous tufa and coat vegetation. Diverse genera include species that are also calcified but impossible to determine because they lack reproductive organs. Crystals have been described from 74 species in the literature and w…
Differential Proteomics Based on 2D-Difference In-Gel Electrophoresis and Tandem Mass Spectrometry for the Elucidation of Biological Processes in Ant…
2017
Proteomics based on 2D-Difference In Gel Electrophoresis (2D-DIGE) coupled with mass spectrometry (MS) procedures can be considered a âgold standardâ to determine quantitatively and comparatively protein abundances in cell extracts from different biological sources/conditions according to a gel-based approach. In particular, 2D-DIGE is used for protein specie separation, detection, and relative quantification, whenever tandem MS is used to obtain peptide sequence information that is managed according to bioinformatic procedures to identify the differentially represented protein species. The proteomic results consist of a dynamic portray of over- and down-represented protein species that…

Biowaiver Monograph for Immediate-Release Solid Oral Dosage Forms: Bisoprolol Fumarate
2014
Abstract Literature data relevant to the decision to allow a waiver of in vivo bioequivalence (BE) testing for the approval of immediate-release (IR) solid oral dosage forms containing bisoprolol as the sole active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) are reviewed. Bisoprolol is classified as a Class I API according to the current Biopharmaceutics Classification System (BCS). In addition to the BCS class, its therapeutic index, pharmacokinetic properties, data related to the possibility of excipient interactions, and reported BE/bioavailability problems are taken into consideration. Qualitative compositions of IR tablet dosage forms of bisoprolol with a marketing authorization (MA) in ICH (Inter…
Simultaneous determination of bisphenol A, octylphenol, and nonylphenol by pressurised liquid extraction and liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectr…
2011
Abstract A new analytical method, using pressurised liquid extraction (PLE) and liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS), was developed for the simultaneous determination of bisphenol A (BPA), octylphenol (OP) and nonylphenol (NP) in powdered infant formulas (IF) and powdered skimmed milk (PM). The analytes were extracted by PLE, using this optimised conditions: ethyl acetate as solvent, 70 °C of temperature, reversed-phase silica C18 as dispersing agent and three cycles of extraction. The extracts were then injected in LC–MS/MS using a Gemini C18 column and a mixture of 5% water and 95% methanol/acetonitrile, both with 0.1% ammonia, as a mobile phase. Recoveries at differe…
Phylogeny of Salicornioideae (Chenopodiaceae): Diversification, biogeography, and evolutionary trends in leaf and flower morphology
2006
Chenopodiaceae-Salicomioideae (14-16 gen./c. 90 spp.) are distributed worldwide in coastal and inland saline habitats. Most of them are easy to recognize by their succulent-articulated stem with strongly reduced leaves and by flowers aggregated in dense, thick spike-shaped thyrses. ITS and the atpB-rbcL spacer were sequenced for 67 species representing 14 genera of Salicomioideae and analysed with maximum parsimony and maximum likelihood, a fossil-calibrated molecular clock using the penalized likelihood method, and lineage through time plots. The evolution of stem, leaf, and flower morphology was traced using MacClade. Both molecular markers indicate that the monophyletic Salicomioideae or…
Biowaiver Monograph for Immediate-Release Solid Oral Dosage Forms: Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride.
2020
Abstract In this monograph, literature data is reviewed to evaluate the feasibility of waiving in vivo bioequivalence testing and instead applying the Biopharmaceutics Classification System (BCS) based methods to the approval of immediate-release solid oral dosage forms containing moxifloxacin hydrochloride as the sole active pharmaceutical ingredient. To facilitate the feasibility decision, solubility and permeability and dissolution characteristics in the context of the BCS, therapeutic index, therapeutic use, pharmacokinetic parameters, bioequivalence/bioavailability issues, drug-excipient interactions and other relevant data were taken into consideration. Moxifloxacin is a BCS class I d…
Halloysite nanotubes loaded with peppermint essential oil as filler for functional biopolymer film
2016
Abstract The purpose of this paper is to show how a functional bionanocomposite film with both antioxidant and antimicrobial activities was successfully prepared by the filling of a pectin matrix with modified Halloysite nanotubes (HNT) containing the essential peppermint oil (PO). Firstly, HNT surfaces were functionalized with cucurbit[6]uril (CB[6]) molecules with the aim to enhance the affinity of the nanofiller towards PO, which was estimated by means of HPLC experiments. The HNT/CB[6] hybrid was characterized by several methods (thermogravimetry, FT-IR spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy) highlighting the influence of the supramolecular interactions on the composition, therma…
Contribution to the flora of Asian and European countries: new national and regional vascular plant records, 2
