Mechanisms underlying the inhibitory effects induced by pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating peptide in mouse ileum

Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate the signal transduction mechanisms underlying the inhibitory effect induced by pituitary adenylate cyclase activating peptide (PACAP-27) on the spontaneous contractile activity of longitudinal muscle of mouse ileum. Mechanical activity of ileal segments was recorded isometrically in vitro. PACAP-27 produced apamin-sensitive reduction of the amplitude of the spontaneous contractions. 9-(Tetrahydro-2-furanyl)-9H-purin-6-amine (SQ 22,536), adenylate cyclase inhibitor, or genistein and tyrphostin 25, tyrosine kinase inhibitors, had negligible effects on PACAP-27-induced inhibition. Behavioral and electrophysiological correlates of cognitive control in ex-obese adults

Impaired cognitive control functions have been documented in obesity. It remains unclear whether these functions normalize after weight reduction. We compared ex-obese individuals, who successfully underwent substantial weight loss after bariatric surgery, to normal-weight participants on measures of resistance to interference, cognitive flexibility and response inhibition, obtained from the completion of two Stroop tasks, a Switching task and a Go/NoGo task, respectively. Functional networks of motor inhibition in conversion disorder patients and feigning subjects

The neural correlates of motor inhibition leading to paresis in conversion disorder are not well known. The key question is whether they are different of those of normal subjects feigning the symptoms. Thirteen conversion disorder patients with hemiparesis and twelve healthy controls were investigated using functional magnetic resonance tomography under conditions of passive motor stimulation of the paretic/feigned paretic and the non-paretic hand. Principal neurons in the adult cerebral cortex undergo synaptic, dendritic, and spine remodeling in response to different stimuli, and several reports have demonstrated that the polysialylated form of the neural cell adhesion molecule (PSA-NCAM) participates in these plastic processes. However, there is only limited information on the expression of this molecule on interneurons and on its role in the structural plasticity of these cells. We have found that PSA-NCAM is expressed in mature interneurons widely distributed in all the extension of the cerebral cortex and have excluded the expression of this molecule in most principal cells.
