WHO:s skolelevsstudie (Health Behavior in School-aged Children (HBSC) Study) är internationellt en av de mest omfattande, långvariga och betydelsefulla undersökningarna om levnadsvanor bland skolungdomar. Undersökningen startade för drygt 30 år sedan och i detta nu deltar över 40 länder i Europa och Nordamerika. Nästa internationella datainsamling, som är den tionde i ordningen, genomförs år 2018. Nytt forskningsmaterial insamlas vart fjärde år. Fotoluminiscences atkarība no temperatūras 1D ZnO nanostruktūrām ar dažādām uzbūves īpašībām

Tika pētītas 1D ZnO nanošķiedras ar dažādiem biezumiem. 1D ZnO nanostruktūras fotoluminiscence tika mērīta no 77 K līdz istabas temperatūrai. Emisijas spektra analīze un galveno parametru (aktivācijas enerģijas, temperatūras koeficienti u.t.t.) aprēķins. 1D ZnO aizliegtā zona tika pētīta ar optisko spektroskopiju. Tika veikta korelācija starp optiskajām un uzbūves īpašībām.
Inkluusioideologian ja koulutuspolitiikan jännitteitä 2000-luvun suomalaisessa peruskoulussa

Tässä artikkelissa tarkastellaan inklusiivisen kasvatuksen ideologian ja kansallisen koulutuspolitiikan välistä ristiriitaa suomalaisessa peruskoulukasvatuksessa. Tarkastelun aikaperspektiivi on kaksi vuosikymmentä ja sen takaraja on 1990-luvun loppu. Artikkelin taustalla ovat havainnot, joiden mukaan inklusiivisen kasvatuksen ihanteiden mukainen koulun muutos on Suomessa toteutunut länsimaisittain varsin hitaasti. Prosessi on ollut hidas, vaikka suomalainen koulutuspolitiikka on periaatteellisella tasolla sitoutunut keskeisimpiin kansainvälisiin julkilausumiin edistääkseen osaltaan inkluusioideologian mukaista koulun kehittämistä. peerReviewed

Performance Assessment of Critical Thinking: Conceptualization, Design, and Implementation

Enhancing students’ critical thinking (CT) skills is an essential goal of higher education. This article presents a systematic approach to conceptualizing and measuring CT. CT generally comprises the following mental processes: identifying, evaluating, and analyzing a problem; interpreting information; synthesizing evidence; and reporting a conclusion. We further posit that CT also involves dealing with dilemmas involving ambiguity or conflicts among principles and contradictory information. We argue that performance assessment provides the most realistic—and most credible—approach to measuring CT. The richest superclusters : I Morphology

We study the morphology of the richest superclusters from the catalogues of superclusters of galaxies in the 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey and compare the morphology of real superclusters with model superclusters in the Millennium Simulation. We use Minkowski functionals and shapefinders to quantify the morphology of superclusters: their sizes, shapes, and clumpiness. We generate empirical models of simple geometry to understand which morphologies correspond to the supercluster shapefinders. We show that rich superclusters have elongated, filamentary shapes with high-density clumps in their core regions. The clumpiness of superclusters is determined using the fourth Minkowski functional $V_3$.…
Multi-scale morphology of the galaxy distribution

Many statistical methods have been proposed in the last years for analyzing the spatial distribution of galaxies. Very few of them, however, can handle properly the border effects of complex observational sample volumes. In this paper, we first show how to calculate the Minkowski Functionals (MF) taking into account these border effects. Then we present a multiscale extension of the MF which gives us more information about how the galaxies are spatially distributed. A range of examples using Gaussian random fields illustrate the results. Finally we have applied the Multiscale Minkowski Functionals (MMF) to the 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey data.
