An Economic Assessment of Micro-Scale Use of Renewable Energy Sources: Two Case Studies
2015
During recent times, renewable energy technologies have shown a relative fast growth in the global energy investment, global energy capacity and their integration within multiple sectors, particularly in the electricity sector. Renewable energy technologies have also experienced notorious declining costs on their manufacturing production. Nevertheless, while this growth is widely acknowledged, the share of renewables with respect total energy production has been moderate. Technological advancements in renewable energy have demonstrated the potential of renewables in energy generation and also that renewables can provide direct and indirect advantages over their counterparts. This thesis inv…
The potential socio-economic and environmental impacts of solar PV mini-grid deployment on local communities: a case study of rural island communitie…
2016
Solar PV mini-grid electrification application has been introduced in Ghana to provide electricity for some rural areas that are located disproportionately beyond the reach of the national grid. Through the Renewable Energy Act (832) enacted in 2011, the government of Ghana has developed policy plan to vigorously increase the share of renewable energy sources in the generation mix to 10% by the year 2020. In accordance with the policy, the Ghana Energy Development and Access Project (GEDAP) under the Ministry of Energy (MoE) have undertaken the goal to deploy solar PV mini-grid systems to supply electricity to the rural island communities on the Volta Lake. By virtue of their locations, the…
Jauniešu Delinkventas Uzvedības Biežuma, Eksternalizētās un Internalizētās Uzvedības Saistība
2021
Šī pētījuma mērķis ir noskaidrot delinkventas uzvedības biežuma, eksternalizētas un internalizētas uzvedības saistību un šo saistību ar attiecību viedošanas problēmām vienaudžu vidū. Pētījuma izlasi veido 62 pusaudži vecumā no 15-18 gadiem (vidējais vecums = 16,5). Izlase sastāv no 31 meitenes un 31 zēna . Lai noskaidrotu pusaudžu uzvedības problēmas tika pielietota Ahenbaha Jauniešu Pašnovērtējuma aptauja (Youth Self Report; YSR; Achenbach & Rescorla, 2001). Delinkventas uzvedības biežuma noteikšanai tika izmantota Delinkventas Uzvedības Biežuma aptauja (Frequency of Delinquent Behavior, Dahlberg, Toal & Behrens, 1998). Pētījuma rezultāti atklāj, ka delinkventas uzvedības biežums pozitīvi …
Sociālā kapitāla loma biznesa inkubatoros
2017

Frequency and Density-Dependent Selection on Life-History Strategies - A Field Experiment
2008
Negative frequency-dependence, which favors rare genotypes, promotes the maintenance of genetic variability and is of interest as a potential explanation for genetic differentiation. Density-dependent selection may also promote cyclic changes in frequencies of genotypes. Here we show evidence for both density-dependent and negative frequency-dependent selection on opposite life-history tactics (low or high reproductive effort, RE) in the bank vole (Myodes glareolus). Densitydependent selection was evident among the females with low RE, which were especially favored in low densities. Instead, both negative frequency-dependent and density-dependent selection were shown in females with high RE…
Impact assessment of a solar powered water treatment project
2015
Water treatment technologies are seen as the best alternative to be considered for adoption in developing countries where access to portable water supply that is free of pathogens is yet a challenge. This study intended to assess impact brought forth by a project, which employed a water treatment technology in rural settings of Morogoro Region in Tanzania. The project used solar photovoltaic panels to trap solar energy, converted to mechanical power to treat water with the help of sterilization ultraviolet membrane. A comparative analysis was used as an assessment framework to study impacts of the project with respect to the quality of approach used during the project life cycle. Determinan…
