Assessment of Human Capability, An Effective Tool to Obtain Confidence in the Visual Inspection Process
2018
Abstract To consistently produce high quality products, a quality management system must be practically implemented in every organization. One of its core instrument is to ensure the capability of the measurement systems, which are the basis for decisions regarding the behavior of the product critical quality characteristics. Base on requirements of the quality management system, a Measurement System Analysis should be conducted for all measurement system which are mentioned in the organization quality plan. Most problematic measurement system issues come from measuring discrete data, which are usually the result of human judgment (subjective decision) when categorizing products such as goo…
Measurement system analysis by attribute, an effective tool to ensure the quality of the visual inspection process within an organization
2019
A successful quality assurance program in any organization needs good measurement systems. The concept of measurement system refers to the manpower, machines, materials, methods and mother nature involved in obtaining measurements. Measurement system analysis (MSA) is a set of procedures which are used to determine the amount of variation due to the measurement system and if the measurement data are valid. Most problematic measurement system issues come when the results of a measurement system are qualitative values such as “pass” or “fail” (attribute data) rather than quantitative values (variable data). Because in industry many measurement systems deal with qualitative data, the assessmen…
A new probe concept for internal pipework inspection
2017
The interior visual inspection of nuclear pipework is a critical inspection activity required to ensure the continued safe, reliable operation of plant and thus avoid costly outages. Typically, the video output from a manually deployed probe is viewed by an operator online with the task of identifying and estimating the location of surface defects such as cracks, corrosion and pitting. However, it is very difficult to estimate the nature and spatial extent of defects from the often disorientating small field of view video of a relatively large structure. This work describes a new visual inspection system incorporating a wide field of view machine vision camera and additional sensors designe…
Lo ZEN e l'arte della narrazione dei luoghi
2011
This paper aims at analysing a very well-known Italian neighbourhood, which is located in Palermo and called Zen. This neighbourhood has often been described as a clear example of the worst and most disgraced urban landscapes in Italy, as mass media and local stakeholders shaped its image for their own uses. Through a series of interviews, on-the-spot inspections and the use of other qualitative methodologies, the final goal of this paper is to subvert traditional representations of this place and enforce a plural way of describing it, using research techniques that might position the researcher and his or her own description inside a larger framework. Would geographers, social scientists a…
3D part inspection path planning of a laser scanner with control on the uncertainty
2011
International audience; This article concerns the measurement process of mechanical parts using laser scanners. From the point of view of industrial applications, the objective is to guarantee the measurement accuracy during the scanning with regard to the geometrical product specifications. The proposed method can be summarized as follow: the first step consists of analyzing the interval of tolerance for the different specifications and to attribute to every geometrical entity a maximal uncertainty of measurement. This uncertainty depends on the angle of incidence between the laser plane and the scanned surface. In the second step, an approach based on the concept of visibility is used fro…
Path Planning in Inspection Process of 3-D Parts Used the Visibility Technique
2006
International audience; In this paper presents a new method for digitalization of parts with non-contact sensor remains nevertheless complex. It is not completely solved today, in particular from a metrological point of view. In this article, we consider the determination of the trajectory planning within the framework of the control of dimensional and geometrical specifications. The sensor used in this application is a laser planner scanner with CCD camera oriented and moved by a CMM. Thus, we seek to determine which are the best possible orientations of the sensor with respect to the geometrical specifications of the measured part, giving the admissible measurement uncertainties. The deve…
