Defect characterization in Al welded joints by non-contact Lamb wave technique
2006
Abstract The use of air-coupled sensors to detect flaws in Al welded joints and the advantage of Lamb wave for their characterization has been proved. Ultrasonic waves were generated by a pulsed laser and by contact angle-beam transducer, and received by an air-coupled capacitive transducer. Laser-based configuration was used to quickly locate the defect, whereas the angle-beam contact probe configuration to characterize it thanks to the dispersive behavior of Lamb waves. Guided waves allow inspection of the complete thickness with only one scan, permitting to detect and to size both internal and surface defects; their high flexibility in the measurement is due to the various parameters cha…
Social networks and robot companions: Technology, ethics, and science fiction
2019
Information technologies have become part of our everyday lives and are increasingly acting as intermediaries in our workplaces and personal relationships or even substituting them. This growing interaction with machines poses several questions about which we have no previous experience, nor can we reliably predict how they will influence the evolution of society. This has led to the convergence of technoscience and humanities in an ethical debate that is starting to bear fruit, not only with the setting of regulations and standards, but also with educational initiatives in university teaching, professional improvement, and the conformation of public opinion. Interestingly, science fiction …
Heuristics for the Mixed Rural Postman Problem
2000
Abstract The Rural Postman Problem on a mixed graph (MRPP) consists of finding a minimum cost tour which traverses, at least once, the arcs and edges of a given subset of the arcs and edges of the graph. This problem is known to be NP-hard. This paper presents two heuristic approaches to solve it. An approximate algorithm based on the resolution of some flow and matching problems and a tabu search implementation is presented. The tabu search algorithm seeks high-quality tours by means of a switching mechanism in an intensification phase and two levels of diversification. Computational results are presented to assess the merits of the method. Scope and purpose Routing Problems arise in sever…
Apparence des matériaux, Vision artificielle, Inspection qualité, Reflectance Transformation Imaging
2022
Mastering the visual perception of the surfaces of manufactured products is a central issue for industry. However, in industry, the quality of surfaces is often assessed by human inspectors. Only a few specific cases use an instrumental or photometric approach. Among the photometric approaches, one of them is experiencing significant growth: Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI). However, this technique has limitations in terms of data acquisition and processing. The objective is therefore to correct some of these limitations in order to improve the RTI and, consequently, the visual quality control of surface conditions in industry. The current RTI systems are limited and cannot meet our …
Spin orbit torque switching in Ta/CoFeB/MgO without longitudinal fields
2015
Intense investigations are carried out on novel magnetic materials systems with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA), where new spin-orbit effects occur due to structural inversion asymmetry (SIA). So called spin-orbit torques (SOTs), have been observed for the first time in PMA nano-structures with SIA, when an electric current is injected [1-3], leading to ultra-efficient current-induced domain wall motion and current-induced magnetization switching [2,3].
