Measurement of the thermophysical properties of liquid metals is challenging because of their high chemical activity and high temperatures. The electromagnetic levitation allows one to hold the electrically conductive liquid sample containerless in an inert atmosphere in thermal equilibrium while measurements on the sample can be taken in a non-contact way followed by extraction of some thermophysical properties. Yet, the electromagnetic forces within the skin layer inside the sample cause convective flow of the liquid thus disabling the data extraction. Abstract Landslide hazard assessment, effected by means of geostatistical methods, is based on the analysis of the relationships between landslides and the spatial distributions of some instability factors. Frequently such analyses are based on landslide inventories in which each record represents the entire unstable area and is managed as a single instability landform. Transverse instability of periodic and generalized solitary waves for a fifth-order KP model

We consider a fifth-order Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation which arises as a two-dimensional model in the classical water-wave problem. This equation possesses a family of generalized line solitary waves which decay exponentially to periodic waves at infinity. We prove that these solitary waves are transversely spectrally unstable and that this instability is induced by the transverse instability of the periodic tails. We rely upon a detailed spectral analysis of some suitably chosen linear operators.

Abstract We investigate the full three-dimensional instability mechanism arising in the wake of an hemispherical roughness element immersed in a laminar Blasius boundary layer. The inherent three-dimensional flow pattern beyond the critical Reynolds number is characterized by coherent vortical structures called hairpin vortices. Direct numerical simulation is used to analyze the formation and the shedding of hairpin packets inside the shear layer. 5-Fluorouracil (5FU) is the main drug used for the treatment of colorectal cancer (CRC) and Thymidilate Synthase (TS) is its target enzyme. TS gene has regulatory tandemly repeated sequences in its 5'' and 3''untraslated region (5''-3'' UTR). CRC often shows a kind of genomic instability called Microsatellite Instability (MSI) that is associated with TS levels and survival.
