Hypoxia and anoxia in insects: microcalorimetric studies on two species (Locusta migratoria and Manduca sexta) showing different degrees of anoxia to…

1995

Abstract Microcalorimetry was used to study the effects of graded hypoxia and anoxia on two species of insects that differ in their tolerance of anoxia. Locusts (Locusta migratoria) can survive an atmosphere of pure nitrogen for not more than 4 h (at room temperature), whereas hawk moths (Manduca sexta) can recover from more than 24 h of anoxia. To produce graded hypoxia, air and pure nitrogen were mixed and this mixture was passed through the cells of a twin calorimeter equipped with circulation cells. A gas flow containing 2% or more of oxygen had no significant effect on behaviour (as observed in parallel experiments using transparent cells) or heat flow rate. If oxygen content was reduc…

Detection and discrimination of organophosphorus pesticides in water by using a colorimetric probe array

2014

[EN] Detection and discrimination of several organophosphorus pesticides in water using a colorimetric probe array containing twelve dyes has been achieved. A clear discrimination for malathion, leptophos, dichlorvos, dibrom and diazinon was observed. The array was used to determine the concentration of diazinon in orange leaves

Chemomechanical preparation by hand instrumentation and by Mtwo engine-driven rotary files, an ex vivo study

2011

Objective: To compare the disinfecting efficacy of the sodium hypochlorite irrigation by root canal preparation with stainless steel hand files, taper 0.02 and nickel-titanium Mtwo files with taper 0.04-0.06. Study Design: 40 extracted human teeth were sterilized, and then inoculated with Enterococcus faecalis (ATCC 29212). After 6 day incubation time the root canals were prepared by hand with K-files (n=20) and by engine-driven Mtwo files (VDW, Munich, Germany) (n=20). Irrigation was carried out with 2.5% NaOCl in both cases. Samples were taken and determined in colony forming units (CFU) from the root canals before and after the preparation with instruments #25 and #35. Results: Significa…

Test-Retest Reliability of Task Performance for Golf Swings of Medium- to High-Handicap Players

2022

Background: Golf swing performance in medium- to high-handicap players must be reliably measured to use this variable in both research studies and in applied settings. Nevertheless, there are no studies published on this topic and test–retest evidence is only available for low-handicap players. The aim of this study was to determine the number of attempts necessary to obtain a reliable measurement protocol for swing performance variables in medium- to high-handicap players. Methods: Ten amateur players (55.67 (13.64) years, 78.4 (11.4) kg, 1.75 (7.95) m) took part in a test–retest study in two experimental sessions one week apart. In each one, fifteen swings with a six iron and a driver wer…

Bauskas novada Gailīšu pagasta Norvēģijas valdības divpusēja finanšu instrumenta atbalstītā projekta "Uzņēmējdarbības aktivitātes veicināšana Zemgale…

2020

Darba mērķis ir uz teorētisko un praktisko materiālu pamata veikt Norvēģijas valdības divpusējā finanšu instrumenta atbalstītā projekta “Uzņēmējdarbības aktivitātes veicināšana Zemgales reģiona pierobežas teritorijās” aktivitāšu kvantitatīvo rezultātu analīzi, salīdzināt analīzes rezultātus ar projekta uzstādītajiem, sākotnējiem mērķiem, kā arī novērtēt turpmākās šādu līdzīgu projektu ieviešanas iespējas.

Barbed Dental Ti6Al4V Alloy Screw : Design and Bench Testing

2023

Background context. Dental implants are designed to replace a missing tooth. Implant stability is vital to achieving osseointegration and successful implantation. Although there are many implants available on the market, there is room for improvement. Purpose. We describe a new dental implant with improved primary stability features. Study design. Lab bench test studies. Methods. We evaluated the new implant using static and flexion–compression fatigue tests with compression loads, 35 Ncm tightening torque, displacement control, 0.01 mm/s actuator movement speed, and 9–10 Hz load application frequency, obtaining a cyclic load diagram. We applied variable cyclic loadings of prede…

Single vector boson production in e(+)e(-) collisions at centre-of-mass energies from 183 to 209 GeV

2005

The cross sections for single vector boson production in the Wenu and Zee channels are measured from the data collected by AA the ALEPH detector at LEP for centre-of-mass energies between 183 and 209 GeV. These data correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 683 pb(-1). Single-W production is studied in both hadronic and leptonic decay channels. Hadronic and dimuon decays are used for single-Z production. The measured cross sections agree with the Standard Model predictions.

Green Roofs as Effective Tools for Improving the Indoor Comfort Levels of Buildings—An Application to a Case Study in Sicily

2020

In the line of pursuing better energy efficiency in human activities that would result in a more sustainable utilization of resources, the building sector plays a relevant role, being responsible for almost 40% of both energy consumption and the release of pollutant substances in the atmosphere. For this purpose, techniques aimed at improving the energy performances of buildings&rsquo
