Modulation of the organic heterojunction behavior, from electrografting to enhanced sensing properties

International audience; The energy barrier of an organic heterojunction built on ITO electrodes and made from a low conductive sublayer (Cu(F16Pc)) covered by a highly conductive semiconductor (LuPc2) is modulated by electrografting of organic layers before depositing the sublayer. Impedance spectroscopy clearly demonstrates the increase of the energy barrier at the ITO – sublayer interface. Additionally, the electrografting is a versatile and promising method for the tuning of heterojunctions. The I(V) characteristics of the heterojunctions are highly modified by the electrografting. From the solution processing of hydrophilic molecules to polymer-phthalocyanine hybrid materials for ammonia sensing in high humidity atmospheres.

We have prepared different hybrid polymer-phthalocyanine materials by solution processing, starting from two sulfonated phthalocyanines, s-CoPc and CuTsPc, and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), polyethylene glycol (PEG), poly(acrylic acid-co-acrylamide) (PAA-AM), poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA) and polyaniline (PANI) as polymers. We also studied the response to ammonia (NH3) of resistors prepared from these sensing materials. The solvent casted films, prepared from s-CoPc and PVP, PEG and PAA-AM, were highly insulating and very sensitive to the relative humidity (RH) variation. Thermal and infrared spectroscopic characterization of historical mortars

Abstract The characterization of historical mortars was performed by thermal analysis (TG-DTG), simultaneous infrared spectroscopy (TG-FTIR) and inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES). The samples were taken from St. John Church (Tartu, Estonia), built in the 13th–14th centuries. The analyses are important for the restoration of the church. In reality, mortar is a very difficult system, the lime is accompanied with different hydraulic components. Reagent free electrochemical-based detection of silver ions at interdigitated microelectrodes using in-situ pH control

Abstract Herein we report on the development of an electrochemical sensor for silver ions detection in tap water using anodic sweep voltammetry with in-situ pH control; enabled by closely spaced interdigitated electrode arrays. The in-situ pH control approach allowed the pH of a test solution to be tailored to pH 3 (experimentally determined as the optimal pH) by applying 1.65 V to a protonator electrode with the subsequent production of protons, arising from water electrolysis, dropping the local pH value. Gas sensitive luminescence of ZnO coatings obtained by plazma electrolytic oxidation

Abstract The ZnO coatings on Zn substrate were obtained using plasma electrolytic oxidation method. The XRD and SEM methods were used for structural and morphological characterization of obtained coatings. The luminescence of ZnO coatings were studied and compared with luminescence characteristics of ZnO single crystal. It is shown that luminescence intensity in ZnO defect band depends on oxygen concentration in ambient atmosphere. The effect is of interest for oxygen sensing based on ZnO coating luminescence.

Evaluation of interfacial stress transfer efficiency by coating fragmentation test

Probabilistic model of coating fragmentation under uniaxial tensile loading is developed. Analytical expressions of the crack spacing evolution are obtained for small-strain and large-strain fragmentation regimes. The model is applied for coating and interface property identification of several thin brittle coating/polymer substrate systems. An estimate of the stress transfer length, derived from the fragmentation data, is found to correlate with the interfacial shear strength thus suggesting that both parameters reflect an intrinsic property related to the mechanical efficiency of coating/substrate interface.

Abstract The combination of a sexithiophene and a perylene diimide derivatives, as p-type and n-type materials, respectively, used as sub-layers, to an intrinsic semiconductor, namely the lutetium bisphthalocyanine, allows to obtain a new transducer for gas sensing. Diagnostics for studies of novel laser ion acceleration mechanisms.

Diagnostic for investigating and distinguishing different laser ion acceleration mechanisms has been developed and successfully tested. An ion separation wide angle spectrometer can simultaneously investigate three important aspects of the laser plasma interaction: (1) acquire angularly resolved energy spectra for two ion species, (2) obtain ion energy spectra for multiple species, separated according to their charge to mass ratio, along selected axes, and (3) collect laser radiation reflected from and transmitted through the target and propagating in the same direction as the ion beam.
