Laser even harmonics generation by a plasma embedded in a static electric field

2004

Even order harmonics generation of the laser radiation due to electron-ion collisions in a plasma embedded in a constant electric field is investigated theoretically. Even harmonics are generated because the presence of a static electric field removes the invariance of the electron distribution function under the symmetry operation of velocity direction inversion. Efficiency generation dependencies are investigatedvsdifferent significant parameters as: harmonics number; the ratio of the electron quiver velocity to the thermal velocity; the orientation of the constant electric field with respect to the laser radiation electric field and its wavevector. It is shown that in the general case th…

On the dynamics of confined particles: a laser test

2017

Reduced dimensionality systems (RDS) are materials extending along one or two dimensions much more than the other(s). The degrees of freedom of the small dimension are not explored by the electrons since their energy is very large. The time dependent wave function of a particle in a short nanotube, taken as a paradigm of the RDS family, is calculated by solving the Klein–Gordon equation; the confining condition produces a small change in the mass of the particles and of the energy levels. These changes are of relativistic origin and therefore small, but can be measured by use of a weak resonant laser field which produces cumulative effects in the time development of the wave function. The s…

Control of multiphoton radiative recombination through the action of two low-frequency fields

2004

Interference effects caused by the simultaneous action of a two low frequency fields with commensurate frequencies during laser assisted radiative recombination (LARR) are investigated theoretically. Varying the relative phase of the two fields the following LARR features may be controlled: a) location of the maxima in the total emitted power; b) enhancement of the total emitted power; c) polar shape of the differential emitted power; d) shape of the emitted power spectra.

The η transition form factor from space- and time-like experimental data

2015

The $\eta$ transition form factor is analysed for the first time in both space- and time-like regions at low and intermediate energies in a model-independent approach through the use of rational approximants. The $\eta\rightarrow e^+e^-\gamma$ experimental data provided by the A2 Collaboration in the very low energy region of the dilelectron invariant mass distribution allows for the extraction of the most precise up-to-date slope and curvature parameters of the form factors as well as their values at zero and infinity. The impact of these new results on the mixing parameters of the $\eta$-$\eta^\prime$ system, together with the role played by renormalisation dependent effects, and on the d…

High-resolution positron lifetime spectrometer with BaF2 scintillators

1987

In this communication we report on a design of a fast coincidence positron lifetime spectrometer, which is based on single crystal barium fluoride (BaF2) scintillators. A good time resolution (190ps, FWHM), combined with a high efficiency, has been obtained in the normal experimental set-up (with cathode earthed in the photo multipliers). The pile-up effect is observed to disturbe the measured lifetimes in the 180 degree geometry due to the high detection efficiency of the BaF2 scintillator.

Amplification of nonlinear currents generation at harmonics frequencies of submillimeter radiation

2006

The conditions are found when rapid heating of the electrons of a degenerate semiconductor in the presence of two electric fields, one constant and the other variable, is accompanied by the formation of a distribution function significantly departing from the Fermi one. It is also shown that the newly found modification of the electron distribution yields a relative amplification of nonlinear currents generation.

Coherence functions of the electrical and the optical noises in monomodal packaged vertical cavity surface emitting lasers

2006

Calculations of the frequency noise spectra and of the coherence functions between the electrical and the optical noises for a single-mode packaged vertical surface emitting laser (VCSEL) are reported.A rate-equation model for an index guided VCSEL is used, implemented with the electrical noise model including the intrinsic device, the package and external bias network. The extended model works up to the laser relaxation frequency. The amplitude optical noise and its correlation with the frequency and electrical noises are also analysed. The influence on the calculated quantities of some electrical and laser parameters is evaluated. The results show that generally the frequency noise is corr…

Ballistic phonon transport in dielectric membranes

2006

We have calculated the ballistic phononic heat transport in dielectric membranes as a function of radiator temperature and membrane thickness. The phonon modes of such membranes are known as Lamb-modes from elasticity theory. The striking result is that, for a fixed temperature, the radiated power first decreases with decreasing membrane thickness, but then develops a minimum when the transition to two dimensionality is reached. Further decrease of the membrane thickness in the 2D limit leads to increasing radiated power.

Possible test for the suggestion that air showers with E > 1020eV are due to strongly interacting neutrinos

1998

The suggestion is made that air showers with energies beyond the Greisen-Zatsepin-Kuz'min spectral cut-off may have primary vertices some 6 km lower in height than those of proton initiated showers with energies below the GZK cut-off. This estimate is based on the assumption that post-GZK showers are due to neutrinos having acquired strong interactions from generation-changing dual gluon exchange as recently proposed.
