Precision studies in traps: Measurement of fundamental constants and tests of fundamental theories
2003
Experiments on single atomic particles confined in Penning ion traps have contributed significantly to the improvements of fundamental constants and to tests of the theory of Quantum Electrodynamics for free and bound electrons. The most precise value of the fine structure constant as well as the electron mass have been derived from trap experiments. Numerous atomic masses of interest for fundamental questions have been determined with precisions of 10 9 or below. Further progress is envisaged in the near future.
Quantum effects in the dynamics of intensity-dependent two-mode two-photon models of radiation—matter interaction
1996
Abstract We study the two-photon interaction of a two-state localized system with two modes of a quantized electromagnetic or elastic field. Assuming the coupling strength and the atom-field detuning depending on the mode populations, we find that the quantum atomic dynamics manifests nonclassical features related to the specific nonlinear model investigated.
Search for lepton-flavor-violating decays of the Z boson into a τ lepton and a light lepton with the ATLAS detector
2018
Direct searches for lepton flavor violation in decays of the Z boson with the ATLAS detector at the LHC are presented. Decays of the Z boson into an electron or muon and a hadronically decaying r l ...
An optical pulse modulator based on an all-fibre mirror
1996
In this article we present an all-fiber Sagnac interferometer modulated in a pulsed regime.
Pumped helium system for cooling positron and electron traps to 1.2 K
2011
Abstract Extremely precise tests of fundamental particle symmetries should be possible via laser spectroscopy of trapped antihydrogen ( H ¯ ) atoms. H ¯ atoms that can be trapped must have an energy in temperature units that is below 0.5 K—the energy depth of the deepest magnetic traps that can currently be constructed with high currents and superconducting technology. The number of atoms in a Boltzmann distribution with energies lower than this trap depth depends sharply upon the temperature of the thermal distribution. For example, ten times more atoms with energies low enough to be trapped are in a thermal distribution at a temperature of 1.2 K than for a temperature of 4.2 K. To date, H…
Coulomb blockade nanothermometer
1998
Reliable thermometry is normally based on commercial secondary sensors which are factory calibrated. Primary thermometers exist, too, but their use is limited because of intrinsic slowness, complex instrumentation, or inconvenient installation at the desired location. We have found that arrays of nanoscale tunnel junctions exhibit properties which are very suitable for primary and secondary cryogenic thermometry. Temperature range of this Coulomb blockade thermometer (CBT) extends over about two decades for one sensor and the mean temperature is lithographically adjustable. We have studied the performance of the CBT sensors at very low temperatures where the minimum temperature is limited b…
Thermal sensor based on a polymer nanofilm
2016
In this work, we have developed a thermal sensor based on poly(3,4 ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) nanofilms as thermoelectric material. The PEDOT nanofilms have been synthesized by the electrochemical polymerization method. The thicknesses of the films were around 120 nm. The doping level of PEDOT was controlled by chemical reduction using hydrazine. The achieved Seebeck coeficient is 40 uV/K. A PEDOT nanofilm was integrated into an electronic circuit that amplifies the voltage originated from the Seebeck effect. The temperature increment produced by a fingerprint touching the film is enough to switch on a light emitting diode. Peer Reviewed
Tuning Of Organic Heterojunction Conductivity By The Substituents' Electronic Effects In Phthalocyanines For Ambipolar Gas Sensors
2021
Abstract Exploiting organic heterojunction effects in electrical devices are an important strategy to improve the electrical conductivity, which can be utilized into improving the conductometric gas sensors performances. In this endeavor, the present article reports fabrication of organic heterostructures in a bilayer device configuration incorporating octa-substituted nickel phthalocyanines (NiPc) and radical lutetium bis-phthalocyanine (LuPc2) and investigates their sensing properties towards NH3 vapor. NiPc having hexyl sulfanyl, hexyl sulfonyl and p-carboxyphenoxy moieties are synthesized, which electronic effects are electron donating, accepting and moderate accepting, respectively, al…
Reliable Planar Object Pose Estimation in Light Fields From Best Subaperture Camera Pairs
2018
International audience; A light-field camera can obtain richer information about a scene than a usual camera. This property offers a lot of potential for robot vision. In this paper, we present a method for pose estimation of a planar object with a light-field camera. The light-field camera can be regarded as a set of sub-aperture cameras. Although any combination of them can theoretically be used for the pose estimation, the accuracy depends on the combination. We show that the estimated pose error can be reduced by selecting the best pair of sub-aperture cameras. We have evaluated the accuracy of our approach with real experiments using a light-field camera in front of planar targets held…
A General and Accurate Measurement Procedure for the Detection of Power Losses Variations in Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Drives
2020
The research of innovative solutions to improve the efficiency of electric drives is of considerable interest to challenges related to energy savings and sustainable development. In order to successfully validate the adoption of new and innovative software or hardware solutions in the field of electric drives, accurate measurement procedures for either efficiency or power losses are needed. Moreover, high accuracy and expensive measurement equipment are required to satisfy international standard prescriptions. In this scenario, this paper describes an accurate measurement procedure, which is independent of the accuracy of the adopted instrumentation, for the power losses variations involved…
